His heart was overwhelmed with happiness. The moment never seemed real until the moment he got to actually hold his daughter. JAY'S daughter. The thought was still processing in his head. When he was told about her in the beginning, he was so shocked he had just accepted it. But now that he held her in his arms, his thumb too large for her to wrap her hand around, the fantasy was real.
She opened her round, emerald eyes, the same color as Jay's. He kissed her forehead and smiled at her. "Hey, bug."
He called her "bug" because there was a ladybug in the delivery room and once she had settled down she seemed fascinated by it.
She stared at him, wide-eyed, reaching up to touch him. He nuzzled her hand and laughed at her surprised expression.
The door opened and a pretty young woman stepped in. She wore skinny jeans and a baggy, black sweater. Her hair was curled loosely with ombre brown/blonde highlights. She had beautiful dimples and a naturally stunning attraction.
"Hey," Jay smiled to Erin. "All showered up?"
She smiled and slowly walked over to him. She adjusted baby Hailey's blanket and put a hand on Jay's arm. "I can't believe it."
Jay smiled and looked back down at Hailey, who stared at her mom curiously.
"I know," he replied, kissing his daughter's forehead.
"You ready to get out of here?" Erin sighed, lifting the carseat onto the hospital bed.
Jay gently set the insanely small child into her carseat and buckled her in. He took the pink blanket from Erin and set it on Hailey. He lifted the carrier and followed Erin out the door. They headed to the elevator, passing a room where an old man sat outside a door with a quantity of balloons saying, "it's a boy!"
"Hey," Will came out from around the corner and approached them. "How are you feeling?"
Erin shrugged. "A little sore, but I'm fine."
"How come you're on the delivery floor?" Jay asked.
"You know," Will nodded to Hailey. "I wanted to meet her, and after that they needed assistance a few rooms down. Now here I am."
Hailey made whimpering noises and Erin crouched down to comfort her.
"You guys taking off?" Will asked.
"Yep," Jay replied. "Probably going to hang out at home for a day. I'm planning on heading back after one day at home just to make sure it's not all too much."
"I can handle it," Erin sighs. "It's not like she's going to be running around with a lighter."
"All right," Will smirks. "See you Sunday."
