There once was a little girl who lived in a tower. She had long golden hair that could wrap around her whole room.

Her name was sunshine, since her hair was as gold as the rising sun. She lived and played in her tower room everyday. As the years went by she became a beautiful young lady.

Her mother grew envious of her beauty. So one day during one of her visits she told sunshine that she could never leave the tower. She locked the door behind her and left.

She visited sunshine twice a day, once for breakfast and once before bed so she could comb the girls long flowing hair.

One day as sunshine was gazing out her window she saw a young man. She called out to him and he turned around looking for where the voice had came from.

Up here she cried. The young man looked up into the face of an angel. They talked for hours, and before she knew it her mother came knocking on her door. She bade the boy farewell and made him promise to visit again.

He struck true to his promise and visited her everyday. One day he asked her why she never came out. She told him her mother wouldn't allow it.

He thought for a minute and eagerly said, well she never said I couldn't come in.

The girl thought it over and saw no harm so they came up with an idea about how to get him in. They planned to meet the next day.

That night sunshine asked her mother to braid her hair like when she was a child. The mother annoyed went on to braid all the feet of hair.

She kissed her mother goodnight and anxiously went to bed.

The next day sunshine waited until she heard the boy call then she threw the huge braid out the window. The boy used it as a ladder and climbed up.

They did this for months, and soon they fell in love. Sunshine decided to ask her mother to marry him. When she told her mother the truth her mother grew angry.

She forbade her to ever see the boy again. She wept for weeks, ignoring the boys calls to throw down her hair.

Many weeks later the boy came a final time, he sang her a love song,

To you my love I sing to thee

That one day you will marry me

I dream of your beauty and grace

And long to touch your face

Oh sunshine my dear

Please lend me your ear

Throw down your hair

And we can go anywhere

Moved by his song she threw down her hair. When he had reached the top he took her in his arms and held her close. They kissed true loves kiss at the same time that sunshines mother came into the room.

Out of anger and jealousy she ran at the boy but he moved out of the way and sunshines mother flew out the window. She hit the ground with a thud and that was the end of her.

Sunshine grieve over her dead mother but was happy with the boy. They were married by the end of spring. They lived as happy as can be with their three children daisy lily and rose until the end of time.
