Prologue

Becoming One

I first set my eyes on Seth Walkers in 4th grade. There was nothing too noticeable about him except his vibrant green eyes. His eyes showed you that he was a good time. Someone you should get to know. Nothing else about him stood out. He was tall and lanky. Not good for a 4th grader when everyone else is atleast 5 or 6 inches shorter than you.

I wasn't the only one though who didn't know what to do with him. Others were staring at him, seeing nothing new, and returning to their conversations. I too turned away and ignored Seth for all of 4th grade.

The second time I noticed Seth Walkers was when I saw him noticing me. When I first met him his eyes had looked into mine for a few seconds and then he had turned away, not even asking my name.

My name? Melanie Ross. I was the average 5th grader back then. My auburn hair was to my shoulders with slight waves. My eyes were almond shaped and sapphire. It fit too. I was born in September, the month of the sapphire.

I was short and kind of plump. Not too obese but not skinny like some older girls I knew.

That day we were learning about how gravity worked. Something odd happened that day. I felt as if gravity was actually on me. When I looked up to see if anyone else felt the gravity I ended up meeting the eyes of Seth. That was what the gravity was. Not the effects of gravity but the weight of Seth's eyes on my face.

He blushed and turned away. That was the only time I looked up at him but many other times I felt the same gravity and knew it was Seth who was looking at me.

Once again I went back to ignoring him and didn't interact with him anymore. Years passed each year I would see a change in Seth. 6th grade he got a haircut. His shaggy black hair wasn't shaggy anymore. It was short and simple. 7th grade Seth grew even taller. Now he was around 5'11 and that wasn't even the end. In 8th grade he finally looked as if he had caught up to his body. This was the end of his growth spurt. He was now 6'2.

Then 9th grade came. This was the year I would finally talk to Seth. The year I would interact with him and speak to him. This was the year I fell in love with Seth Walkers. The year everything in my life changed. I wasn't the short plump girl who caught a boy staring at her. I was the now taller, curvy girl with hair to my butt who realized that true love was out there.  Here is my story.

Chapter 1

8th grade

The cold wind hurt my face and I could feel the beginnings of a storm. Today was the day of the 8th grade graduation dance. I wasn't even attending. All of my friends were going with dates and I was probably the only one who didn't have one. This was the reason I wasn't going.

"Melanie! Hurry the heck up! I have to get ready," my friend Emily Sparks yelled at me. She was several steps ahead of me and standing on her porch. What can I say? I am a really slow walker. I mean super slow!

"I'm coming. Hold your horses!" I yelled back and picked up my pace. I would rather be reading or practicing the piano. Anything but help my friend get ready for a dance I wasn't even attending. When I got inside her house she was already in her room. "Em I am in the kitchen. You got anything good today?" I asked

"Yea my mom just bought Oreos. Knock yourself out," she yelled down, "And then get up here. I have to get you ready."

Oops! She thinks I am going. What should I do? I really didn't want to be the third wheel between her and Blake, "Emily you know I don't have a date."

"Yea I know but you're still going. I got you a date," She replied still yelling down the stairs.

"WHAT!!" I screeched.
