For the first time in a while, Brandon stayed home. He was either out studying with his classmates or with his girlfriend. I mean I'm not complaining, I just wish he wouldn't leave so much knowing that no one else was home with us beside Daniel.
Today we decided to begin decorating the tree. My mom had just left for work. Macy and Michael were by my side as we hung ornaments on the tree. Brandon lifted one of the twins whenever they needed help. Having my brother back seems so surreal but at the exact same time, it feels great. I really don't know where I would be without him.
"Hey, uh, Alex."
I looked over my shoulder looking at Brandon. "Yea?"
"Now don't hate me okay?"
I looked at him worriedly. "Why?"
"You seemed to have put about five of the same ornaments in the same area." He chuckled pointing to the stop of red ornaments.
"Oops." I took four of them off as I laughed at myself.
"Are you going to tell me about what happened the other day?" His voice softly whispered into my ear. I dropped my head biting onto my lip.
Should I tell him? I don't want him getting into trouble. Without thinking I nodded my head.
"Alex! I'm hungry." Macy said as she pulled on my t-shirt.
"What do you want to eat?" I smiled down at her.
I watched as she tapped her chin to think for a moment. Watching her facial expressions change always brightened my mood.
"Grilled cheese!" Michael answered for her loudly.
"What do you say Macy? Sound like a good idea?" Brandon said kneeling down to her height.
I could see in Macy's facial expression that she was debating on wether she was in the mood for a grilled cheese or not. She smiled nodding as she squealed.
"Grilled cheese!"
Brandon chuckled as he lifted her up in his arms.
"You hungry Alex?" He asked turning to me.
"Nah, I'm not that hungry."
"Well, dr.evil isn't home so I'll go take them to get a grilled cheese at Pete's. We'll be right back. If he comes back, just hide in my room okay? That's the last place he would check."
I nodded not thinking about Daniel. He grabbed his keys along with Michael's hand. Once the door was shut I stretched walking toward the spiral staircase. Knowing I was home alone felt great. It wasn't that big of a deal but it's been a while since I was home alone, without anyone to watch. Climbing up the stairs I heard the dog upstairs running around the hallways.
"Hey buddy!" I knelt down on my knees as the light brown grate dane came charging toward me with excitement. I giggled petting him lightly.
"You hungry? I bet you are. Come on." I stood up allowing them to sprint down the stairs. As I walked into the kitchen, I saw a few dirty dishes in the sink. I simply pushed them past my mind. Maybe Brandon left them there earlier. As I poured the dog food into the small dish with "Max" written sloppily on the side. Max was the family dog, a Great Dane to be exact. He was a stray at the pound and my mother fell in love with him when she was pregnant with Macy and Michael.
As I set the bowl down I heard the front door open. I pet Max as he ate without a care in the world. I wish I could be as carefree as him. No one to tell him what to do around the house. No one to ruin his life or make it a living hell. I was a bit thrown off guard from the slam of the door as a pair of keys were thrown to the floor. I didn't hear Macy or Michael so there was only two other options. Mom or Daniel.
