"God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets, in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son" Hebrews 1:1-2a (emphasis mine)
"But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you...But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you." John 16:7,13-14 (emphasis mine)
I want to take some time and provide some examples of prophetic activities of the Kingdom of God that have taken place in Church history and are still taking place today. We all know that the prophetic activities of the Kingdom of God took place in the Old Testament and in the early Church believers because we can read about it in the Bible. What many believers have a difficult time seeing is that these same types of prophetic activities have taken place throughout Church history, since the death of the apostles, and that they are still taking place today. This is important because we need to realize that the Kingdom of God and its prophetic activities are just as real, present and active, now, as it has ever been.
Prophetic Kingdom Activities In Church History
The prophetic activity of the Kingdom of God has continued throughout the Church age and didn't end after the ministry and death of the original Apostles and the early church believers. Following are three examples from church history of the prophetic activities of the Kingdom of God being carried out by His Kingdom people. There are many more examples but due to space limitations we will highlight these three. The first account is in the life and ministry of Patrick of Ireland.
When Patrick began his ministry in about 430 A.D., Ireland was overrun by paganism. Druid priests performed human and animal sacrifices to appease the local gods. They practiced Spiritism and black magic through incantations and occult rituals. The Irish knew nothing of Jesus at that time. For the demonic power over Ireland to be broken, the power of the Kingdom of God had to be introduced and it had to prevail. Patrick challenged the powers of darkness at its stronghold --Tara—the seat of the high king Loegaire and his two evil druid priests, Lochru and Lucetmael.
Tara was filled with many local kings, generals, nobility, and druids who were attending the pagan feast of Beltine, which happened to coincide with Easter, that year. While Loegaire and his guests prepared to celebrate the feast of Beltine, Patrick was encamped in full view of the castle, in order to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
On the day before the pagan festival, it was the custom, upon penalty of death, that the high king should light the first bonfire before any others in the land. Patrick, however, had kindled a great fire just outside his camp and it could be seen by the inhabitants of the whole area and by all those gathered in the hilltop castle. King Loegaire was livid and demanded that Patrick be put to death for lighting his bonfire before the king started his fire. But the druids replied, "O king, live forever. This fire will never be put out unless it is put out this night on which it has been lit. He who lit the fire and the coming kingdom by which it was lit will overcome us all." The king rejected the words of the druids. He prepared twenty-seven chariots for the druids, kings, and other guests, and drove for Patrick's fire.
When the king and his guests arrived at Patrick's fire, Patrick was summoned before the king. When Patrick came before Loegaire, only one man rose to honor Patrick; the rest sat in silence. The druid Lochru began to insult Patrick and to slander the Christian faith. Suddenly, a boldness took hold of Patrick. His eyes were locked with the eyes of the pagan priest. Sensing God's presence, Patrick shouted: "O Lord, who can do all things, who sent me here. May this wicked man who blasphemes Your name be carried up out of here and die straightaway!" Suddenly, the druid priest flipped into the air and crashed to the ground, and his skull was shattered when it landed on a rock.
