What's that? I left you on a cliffhanger? Oh, aren't I evil...

But here you are!

Chapter 8

(Martyn's POV)

Sunlight was shining down on my face, and I sat straight up. It was almost midday, I've overslept!

I got up hurriedly, walking out of the tent and seeing Toby planting some saplings. He waved when he noticed I was watching.

"Finally awake?" He joked, smiling.

"Oh, shut up." I replied with a grin.

While we waited for Infinity to arrive, we decided to take a walk through the forest, checking up on everything. The sun had started to slide down the sky, and I was getting worried. Every attempt at convincing myself that she had forgotten failed, and I got more and more worried. Then there was a gunshot, and both Toby and I tensed. After a little while there was a second one, and the plants started to whisper loudly to me. I had to be quick. Motioning for Toby to follow, I grabbed my sword and sprinted to where nature told me.

As we reached the edge of the forest, I saw Ridge sauntering smugly towards a limp and bleeding figure on the ground. I rushed towards the person, completely ignoring the demigod, and picked them up, cradling them in my arms. With Toby by my side, I went deeper into the forest, knowing that it would protect us from Ridge. When I was satisfied that we'd gone far enough, I placed the person on the ground. Blood trickled out of her mouth, streamed out of her neck, and flooded from her chest. There was no way she could survive. But that wasn't going to stop me from trying. With each faltering breath, even more blood bubbled out, splattering the ground nearby, as well as patterning my Sapling green shirt with splotches of red.

I placed a hand on each side of her face, putting the thumbs on her cheeks. A tear dropped down next to her, but I hadn't realised that I was crying. Green light flowed from my hands, spreading across her body and covering it with a Sapling glow. I couldn't heal her anymore, I was already growing tired, and if I pushed myself any further I could kill myself as well. With my head bent and eyes closed to stop the tears, I took my hands off her face. She seemed so peaceful now, and beautiful even despite the fact that she was covered in blood. I love her, but I doubt she felt the same way about me. But there could still be hope! If I could get her to a thaumic shrine in three days, she can be brought back to life. But it's not just any shrine, no. It has to be the one in the ruins of the elven kingdom, the one in the palace, the one that holds the power for resurrection. But only for elves.

I turned to Toby. "We have to go to the elf kingdom."

"Why didn't you tell me you were an elf?" He asked sadly.

"Because I was afraid for you. If people found out that you knew, then you could've got hurt, so it was better to keep it to myself."

He nodded slowly. "Okay." Then glanced to Infinity. "Let's go."

I picked her back up, carrying her carefully in my arms, and we started to walk out of the forest, towards the ruins.

(Infinity's POV)

I could sense myself being picked up, ever so gently, so it couldn't be Ridge. Everything hurt so much, and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't open my eyes, let alone move. My back touched the ground, and I would've screamed out in pain if I could, but being frozen like this I was prevented from doing so. Then I felt hands on either side of my face, and a warm feeling spread through me. It was nice... but then it weakened, and stopped altogether. Every breath I took flooded my lungs with more blood than air, and soon I found that I couldn't breathe at all. I panicked, then the pain stopped, and I could breathe once again. Why was that?
