Enchanted Alchemy, School of Magic
chapter one ; the letter
The room was extremely hot this summer evening, which made it considerably harder to study in concentration for the 11 year old girl sitting on her desk chair twiddling her pencil in between her fingers. She sighed and looked out the window, pondering as she watched the other kids play, joy spread across their face. "wouldnt hurt to take a quick break"
Placing her pencil down and moving her studies neatly to the side, she went downstairs and sat in her backyard, grabbing a popsicle on the way.
Sitting down onto a chair with a 'plop', the girl closed her eyes feeling the sun light hit her slightly tan skin as the wind blew into her hair. The neighborhood kids laughter filled the air, as well as their screams of excitement.
She sat with her eyes closed for what felt like an hour, unable to nap due to the sound of kids playing nearby. As she went back inside and entered her room once again, slumping back into her seat, she saw an old looking envelope with a blue wax seal laying in the middle of her desk.
It wasnt there before and she was pretty sure her mom didnt place it there; they went through mail just yesterday.
To make sure she was seeing properly, she repeatedly rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand before slowly reaching out and holding the envelope at arms length as if it were a bomb about to explode. There was a moment of hesitation, but curiosity took over the girl as she began to rip the envelope open.
The paper was in parchment and it seemed to be written in a sort of ink the 11 year old never saw before. It read:
Enchanted Alchemy
School of MagicDear Anna Cooper,
We are very pleased to inform that we have a place for you at Enchanted Alchemy School of Magic. All students here are peculiar, unique, & talented in their own way & we are more then pleased to be having you here with us for the next seven years.
Here, you will learn to unleash & control your inner magic and/or talents.
All students will be meeting at Nafwarts on the 29th of August for departure. There, you may also collect your supplies which will be listed on the Supply List. (Please check page 2)
Anna looked back into the envelope. There was indeed another sheet of parchment that was labelled "Supply List" in large bold letters. A golden ticket also fell out, along with something that looked like manual. The girl continued reading, figuring the letter would explain what those were, later on.
Please be there by 1pm, which is when the Alchemy Express departs to Enchanted Alchemy.
This letter contains instructions to get to Nafwarts, the Supply List, & a ticket to Alchemy Express.
We will see you then, miss Cooper. Best of luck!
Yours sincerely,
Professor Piandel, Headmaster"Nafwarts? What an odd name..."
Anna looked at the manual and read it. Turns out it was directions to Nafwarts; luckily the instructions were quite clear."What are you reading?"
Annas mother, Marilyn, asked as she walked in with some cold drinks."Hm.. A letter from some school called Enchanted Alchemy, School of Magic" Anna answered, with curiosity in her voice. "Funny isn't it."
"....Enchanted Alchemy?" The mother paused, almost dropping the two drinks she held. She quickly placed them on her daughters desk then held up the envelope, delicately tracing the dark blue wax seal with her fingers as a smile appeared on her face.
Anna looked up at her mother, "Do you know that place?"
"Oh yes.. your father and I used to go to this school, its where we met" Marilyn looked at her daughter, "its truly wonderful"
"You can do magic?"
The mother only nodded, but said no more. The room then became silent at the mention of Anna's father.
Marilyn broke the silence. "Well you got 2 weeks to pack and get ready, I suppose you wouldnt be needing those text books anymore" she said, motioning to the stack of books on Anna's desk
Anna smiled brightly, excitement rushing over her. She was able to go to the school her parents went! Maybe she can learn more of her father. Although she had many more questions for her mother about the school (and her father), she chose not to ask, knowing her questions could wait. Annas father was also a very sensitive topic that was rarely brought up in the household.
Anna then proceeded to take out and refold all her clothes from her closest as her mother brought up an old trunk from downstairs. "What is that..?" She thought to herself.
"Its what I used when I went to school" Marilyn answered, as if reading her daughters mind. "I have something for you" she added, holding a rather small package wrapped in newspaper. "I'd like you to open it when you arrive at school" she said as she placed it gently in the trunk. Anna just smiled at her mother in a way of thank you
"You wouldn't be needing to pack too much clothes. You'll need space for your school supplies and uniforms" Anna's mother added, before leaving the room.Anna looked at her trunk and mentally face palmed as there was no more space for anything else. Sighing, she took out everything and repacked, making sure there was still plenty of space left for everything thing else.
