Chapter Nine

Tucker is 3 Months Old

(Valentine's Day 2017)

Megan was sleeping soundly in bed when Jake, who left earlier while everybody slept, walked into the room quietly with his camera. Tucker wagged his tail slightly but didn't move from his lying down position. Jake quietly leaned over the bed and gently kissed Megan's forehead. She moved slightly and her eyes opened.

"Happy Valentine's Day, gorgeous." Jake said making Megan smile. "I don't have flowers but I did get something I know you'll like." Megan groaned as she stretched.

"What'd you get?" Megan asked as Jake sat down on the bed.

"It's a surprise, I can't tell you."

"So, I have to get up now?" Jake smiled.

"Yes, if you want to see what I did." Megan rolled her eyes and smiled as she sat up.

"Second Valentine's day together." Jake said and Megan leaned against Jake, putting her chin on his shoulder. Jake turned his camera off and set it down. Megan leaned forward and kissed Jake. He puckered his lips and kissed her back.

"Now, get up and get dressed so I can take you to breakfast where your first surprise is." Megan smiled and pecked Jake's lips once more.

Jake drove his truck about an hour away into Lancaster. Megan continued to ask where he was taking her but Jake refused to answer her. He just told her that she was going to love what he did for her. The house and buildings disappeared as Jake drove farther into the country.

Megan saw the fenced in ten-acre land as Jake pulled up next the gate. She smiled wide as Sami and Bella stuck their heads out of the shed they were standing under. Megan got out of Jake's truck and climbed over the gate. Sami and Bella snorted in excitement and walked up to Megan.

"My girls." Megan said as she hugged Sami's neck and rubbed the side of Bella's neck.

"I called your dad a couple days back and asked if I could bring them out here so they were closer to you and he brought them out here. Your dad gave me everything for them." Jake said as he walked up behind Megan.

"You did this?" Megan asked as she turned around. Jake nodded his head. "Thank you." Megan hugged Jake and buried her face in his shoulder. She giggled when Sami nibbled on her shoulder. "You really have no idea how much this means to me...but since we're here, go lock your truck so we can go on a ride."

"You do know that I've never ridden a horse." Jake said as he followed Megan to the shed that was attached to the shelter.

"I do, but these two horses are really gentle horses and great horses to learn on. Plus, it's Valentine's Day and this is something I used to do on Valentine's Day when I didn't have a boyfriend."

"Okay, I'll try."

Megan managed to get the two horses tacked up. Jake was a quick learner but Megan had him ride Bella since she was always a bit slower than Sami. Sami is about 16 hands tall which is a little over 5 ½ feet and Bella is only 15 hands which is exactly 5 feet.

"It's easier than I would've thought." Jake as the two horses walked side by side.

"I have two of the best horses in the world." Megan replied and rubbed Sami's neck. "Sami was actually born the day I was at the exact time I was. My dad had one of Sami's brothers at the time and he bought Sami. We got her when she was a year old and she was ridiculously gentle."

"Why, are they not gentle at that age?" Jake asked as they continued the walk.

"They're usually hyper as hell. But Sami followed me everywhere. That's why this meant so much to me because Sami was always my buddy and when we didn't see each other for a year, it was hard but Sami was there for me."
