Brisk footsteps approached the dark space and stopped abruptly off in the hollow abyss of the darkness.  Small, jingling metal pieces scratched the inside of a metal cylinder, a bright wedge of light followed the echo of a loud squeak, and a blinding explosion of light consumed the room at the click of a switch.

"Good morning children," said an approaching voice as the four kids lying in the room squirmed and buried their heads under the sheets to escape the light.

"It is time for your medicine.  Today is an important day for us; you wouldn't want to let me down, would you?  Come now.  It's time to get up."

The blurred silhouette of a man slowly came into focus as the four children sat up from their cots and rolled out of bed.  Dr. Howard stood in the center of the room with a clipboard and four styrofoam cups.  He wore a white lab coat with two pens protruding from the lapel pocket, neatly creased dark brown pants, well-polished black shoes, and thin glasses with silver rims.

The room was entirely white from floor to ceiling.  It was a large square room about the length of a bus in either direction with no windows and one painted steel door opposite four small cots, partitioned by three white drapes hanging from the ceiling.  The only light in the room came from the bright recessed light fixtures in the ceiling and magnified by the prisince white paint on the walls of the room.  The floor itself was a solid white, polished stone of some sort and the light from the ceiling reflected up from its shiny surface.

As the children stood on the cool surface of the floor, the coolness of it came up through their bare feet and traveled up their legs, but they were accustomed to this sensation by now and each took a cup from the doctor and swallowed the contents before handing the cup back.
