Childhood Friends

"Well, Dear, are you ready?" Your loving boyfriend, Kaito, purred to you. You swung your bag over your shoulder and pecked him sweetly on the lips.

"Yes, Sweetie!" You hopped off the steps to your apartment and you both started the walk to school. It was a warm morning that was accompanied by a gentle breeze. The delicious scents of pastries and doughnuts wafted in the wind as you passed the bakery. Kaito chuckled quietly as he saw your nose take in all the different flavors.

"Would you like something, Dear?" He asked you.

"Yes but," You looked down innocently, "I forgot my money..." He swiftly reached in his pocket and took out his wallet in the most dramatic way possible.

"No need to fear, Dear! Your knight in shining armor is here!" He proclaimed with a beaming smile on his face. Your cheeks blushed slightly and you clasped your hands in delight.

"Thank you, Kaito! You don't have to though, I don't mean to be a bother..." His smile drags a little, but it quickly raises back up and he kisses you passionately. The action surprises you, but you quickly return the kiss. He leans his head back and holds your face in his hands.

"The happiest moment in my life was the day I was able to tell everyone that (y/n) (l/n) was my girlfriend, and ever since then, you have been my only source of joy and light. So please, Dear, don't ever think that you could be a bother to me." He pecks you one last time and goes to get your breakfast. You watch him from afar and look like a weirdo as you mumble to yourself about how great Kaito is. He hurries back and gives you your favorite pastry. He sighs slightly while holding his powdered doughnut in his hand.

"It's too bad they don't have any ice cream... Oh well!" He shoves most of it in his mouth and devours it like a mad man, but somehow still looks adorable. You laugh heartliy at his carnivorous ways.

"What? I was hungry."

"I didn't say anything, Darling." You smile to him as you hold his hand that is now a little messy from the powder. You rest your head on his shoulder and silently wish that you could stay in this moment forever.

When you reach the schoolyard, Kaito notices you barely ate any of your pastry.

"I thought you were hungry." He asks. You look back down at your treat and chuckle slightly.

"Oh! I almost forgot about it, I was laughing at you too much." He pretends to pout a little and crosses his arms. Just as you were about to bite into your savory sweet, you catch a hint of purple hair swaying gently with the breeze. It belongs to your childhood friend, Gakupo, who is reading a book and sitting by the water fountain.

"Hey! Gakupo!" You yell to him. He looks up from his book and watches as you childishly skip over to him. He smiles gently at you and welcomes the distraction from his studies.

"Hello there, (y/n)-chan. I trust you are in good spirits this morning?" You giggle at his odd formality and nod your head quickly.

"Absolutely! However... I'm struggling a little with calculus. There's a test on Friday and I really don't want to fail. No matter how I study, I just can't seem to get it." His heart grows heavy as he sees your stress, and quickly offers a solution.

"I'm free all this week so if you ever need a tutor, you know who to call." He replies. His eyes grow wide as you rush to hug him, nearly causing him to fall to the ground.

"Oh, thank you so much, Gakupo! You're a lifesaver! I don't know what I would do without you!" He relaxes into your touch and smells your hair. He would hold onto for all eternity, but you soon let go.

"Is today after school okay?"

"Of course, (y/n)-chan. And if you would like, afterwards we could..." He stops as the loud footsteps of Kaito come running after you. He places a hand on your shoulder and tries to regain his breath.

"Jeez, (y/n), you really shouldn't go running off like that. Oh, hey there, Gakupo." He breathes out. You smile innocently at him and wrap an arm around him, much to Gakupo's dismay. He hides his irritation at the blue-haired man and smiles.

"Hello, Kaito. How are you?"

"Good, good! Well I've got to get to class. The teacher will flip if I miss another tutoring session, so I'll catch you guys later, ok?" He kisses your cheek and rushes off to class. Glad to have you alone again, he walks with you through the hallways.

"It's nice to hang out like this again." He laments to you. You can feel a hint of sadness in his tone, and you can't help but feel guilty.

"I'm sorry we haven't been able to spend time together lately, but I promise that will change!" You encourage him. 'I promise that too,' He tells himself. He pulls you away from the noisy hallway and looks at you with a serious face,

"(y/n), you know that Meiko and Gumi were kidnapped last night, right?" Your eyes widen and you cover your open mouth.

"Oh no, I didn't know! I don't believe it! They were such sweet girls, who would do that to them?"

"I don't know, but the man behind their dissapearance has still not been caught. He has been kidnapping women for a several weeks now, and the police don't know anything." He looks away from you and furrows his eyebrows. You grow scared that you might be next, and almost begin to cry. He looks back up and gently holds your hands in his. 

"I don't tell you this to make you cry, I only want to make you aware so you'll be careful. You've always been so kind to me, even when no one else was, and you mean a lot to me. So please, be careful for my sake?" You sniffle away your tears and smile at him. You give him a warm hug and he gladly returns it.

"You are the best friend anyone could ever have! With you and Kaito by my side, I know I'll be safe!" He frowns slightly at your mention of the other vocaloid, but he shakes away the thought so he could focus on holding you. You both are caught off guard by the rumble of Gakupo's stomach.He looks a little embarrassed, to which you giggle.

"Didn't you eat breakfast, or were you too busy studying? Here, you can have the rest of my doughnut." He blushes at your act of kindness and takes your offering.

"W-why, thank you." You couldn't help yourself, Gakupo looked truly adorable. You gave him a friendly peck on the cheek and rushed to the stairs.

"Well, class will start pretty soon, so I've gotta go! We're still on for study time after school, right?" His heart nearly pounded out of chest, and he was struggling to find his words.

"R-r-right!" He managed. You gave him one last charming smile and went up the stairs. Once he was out of your view sight, he let out a large exhale. He examined the doughnut you gave him and saw where you took a bite out of it. He could imagine the small amounts of saliva that remained on it, and he slowly devoured that piece. He smiled to himself as he could taste the slightest hint of your chapstick on it. He quickly pulled out his wallet to look at the picture of you in it. He longed for the day when he could actually kiss you, but knew he would have to wait. He finished his extra special treat and continued to look at your picture. He was able to walk into class that day with a permanent smile.
