Manik rushed inside, having asked Nandini to stay put at the doorstep. 'Now what was he upto?' Nandini stood there wondering, fiddling with her newly acquired choodas, when a loud thud followed by the shrill clinking of something metallic, almost scared the daylights out of her. Panic-stricken, she scurried inside to check on Manik. But before she could reach the kitchen, infact, even before she could cross the first five yards, she stopped dead in her tracks. This couldn't be the house they had decided to move in? This couldn't be the dingy little suffocating apartment, that Manik had been so upset about, for at this moment, it felt like someone had brought not just the moon or the stars but an entire sky down for her.
"What the hell Nandini, I told you to wait outside. U can't listen to ek instruction nai, wahi karni hai jo you think is right.." He had so wanted to be there when she walked in, to witness her go pale in shock for a moment and then run wild with glee, he had so wanted to relish the childlike ecstasy in her twinkling eyes and revel in knowing that he was the reason.
But he had missed it by a minute, thanks to those useless utensils and an equally impatient Madam Nandini.
Still reeling under the surprise, Nandini, standing perfectly still, began to scrutinize Manik from head to toe.
'How and when? HOW AND WHEN? HOOOOOW ANNND WHHHHEEEN? HOW ON EARTH AND WHEN DID HE ACHIEVE THIS SEEMINGLY INCREDIBLE DEED?'
Not a word escaped her mouth though. Only her eyes grew wide.
