Gilbert Residence

[Elena is writing in her diary.]

'Dear diary, today will be different. It has to be. I will smile, and it will be believable. My smile will say "I'm fine, thank you." "Yes, I feel much better." I will no longer be the sad little girl who lost her parents. I will start fresh, be someone new. It's the only way I'll make it through.'

[In the kitchen.]

I walk down the stairs, school sucks. Why should I get up this early to learn random crap I won't need? Sorry, I should probably introduce myself. I'm Carolynn, yes two n's it confuses a lot of people. I've been told it dates back to the 1800's, to me, that's pretty cool. One more thing, I'm the (almost identical) sister of Elena Gilbert. There are a few key differences about the two of us, I have blue eyes and my hair isn't naturally straight like Elena, it falls in loose curls. Other than that, we look exactly the same.I'm older by a whole 4 minutes

I walk into the kitchen to see Aunt Jenna rushing, she's obviously running late.

"Toast. I can make toast." She says as she sees me walking in, I simply shake my head. I don't eat breakfast, for some reason it makes me sick.

"It's all about the coffee, Aunt Jenna." Elena says walking in and pouring herself a cup.

"Is there coffee?" Our little brother Jeremy says as he takes Elena's full cup. She looks at him for a moment before sighing and making herself another one.

"Your first day of school and I'm totally unprepared. Lunch money?" Jenna says, grabbing a $5 bill from her purse and holding it out to us.

"I'm good." Elena and I both say at the same time, Jeremy looks at us with a raised eyebrow before turning to Jenna and taking the money out of her hands.

"Anything else? A number two pencil? What am I missing?" Jenna says, before going through her bag searching for something.

"Don't you have a big presentation today?" Elena says as I grab my bag and wait at the kitchen door for her.

"I'm meeting with my thesis advisor at...now. Crap!" Jenna says as she grabs her stuff and looks at us all.

"Then go. We'll be fine." Elena shoos Jenna and she leaves. I look to Jeremy and before I can say anything Elena she speaks up.

"You okay?" She asks, I roll my eyes. Nice one.

"Don't start." He shakes his head and he walks out. She watches him with a hurt expression but she doesn't need to act like mom. She's trying way too hard in my opinion.

[MISSING PERSONS: BROOKE AND DARREN BEHIND ELENA ON TV]

I look at Elena and give her my best glare before walking out the door, not bothering to wait for her. Bonnie is waiting outside and I don't look behind me before walking in and getting into the backseat. Bonnie looked at me and raised her eyebrow.

"Care to fill me in on the sibling drama?" She asked smiling slightly.

"Don't even go there." I say sighing and leaning me head back on the seat. Elena gets in to the car and doesn't even look at me. Bonnie sighs in annoyance after seeing our childish argument and drives off.

"So Grams is telling me I'm psychic. Our ancestors were from Salem, witches and all that, I know, crazy, but she's going on and on about it, and I'm like, put this woman in a home already! But then I started thinking, I predicted Obama and I predicted Heath Ledger, and I still think Florida will break off and turn into little resort islands" Bonnie drones on, I could tell that Elena was in a daydream. Hell, I was too. Bonnie noticed and soon she was glaring at both of us. "Elena! Carolynn! Back in the car." She says.
