Phil sat Indian style on the floor of his lounge, a gigantic smile covering his face, as a little tiny hamster was running around on the floor in front of him. The hamster ran up and started scurrying around Phil's hands, causing a small laugh to emerge from his lips, his tongue peeking out of his mouth slightly.

    "Phil!"

Phil looked up from the small animal in shock, making eye contact with his flatmate Dan, who was glaring at him menacingly. Phil's happy expression dropped from his face, as he scrambled to his feet, scooping up the hamster in his hands as he stood.

Guilt instantly flooded Phil as he looked into Dan's disapproving eyes. The older lad had always wanted a hamster as a pet, but was never able to because Dan wouldn't let him. He would always rant about his emotional trauma with his childhood hamster, Suzy, whenever the topic of purchasing a pet was brought up.

But Phil couldn't resist the temptation of getting the adorable hamster when he passed by the pet shop. The hamster's eyes were staring right into Phil's soul, and Phil was weak when it came to cute animals. But now, Phil was wondering if it was worth it to buy a hamster, because he could already sense a fight between the two flatmates.

"Are you fucking kidding me? Phil, you bought a hamster?" Dan asked, anger lacing his tone.

    "Kinda," Phil meekly responded.

"Kinda," Dan chuckled, slightly mocking Phil. "I can't believe you, after I specifically told you no, you go off and buy a stupid hamster."

"Hey, don't be mean to Billy," Phil responded, cradling the hamster in his hands.

"Billy. You already named it, for fucks sake."

"Dan, I've always wanted a hamster, please can we keep him?" Phil pleaded.

"No, I don't want another stupid pet," Dan argued.

"Billy is not a stupid pet," Phil responded, starting to get a bit fed up with Dan's rude attitude.

"Phil. Go back to whereever you got this thing and return it."

    "What?"

"Now," Dan demanded, pointing towards the door.

Phil frowned, his blue eyes slowly welling with tears. He knew that Dan wouldn't be very pleased, but he expected Dan to not act so harshly, and come to accept the hamster. But his sadness slowly turned to anger towards the younger lad.

"No," Phil replied back, eyes now flashing with anger.

    "Excuse me?"

"I said no. Dan, you don't control my life. Yes we may flatmates, but if I want a hamster, then I can have a hamster. I'm a grown man, I can make my own damn decisions," Phil ranted.

Dan's furious expression dropped slightly when Phil referred to their relationship as flatmates, but then only grew more angry.

"Just flatmates? We're fucking boyfriends Phil, and I know you want a hamster, but my opinion matters too. How can you call yourself a grown man when you're acting like a bloody child?" Dan seethed.

Phil felt regret course through his veins when he realized he had upset Dan by calling them flatmates. Of course Phil loved Dan, he would never want to do anything to make the younger man upset, but he was so caught up in finally having a pet, he forgot to care for his boyfriend's feelings.

    "Dan I-"

"Save it. I hope you realize that because of that little rat, we could both get kicked out of this apartment, and then we won't be flatmates anymore," Dan yelled, glaring at the lad standing in front of him.
