werewolves.

they were almost exactly like what Hollywood said they were. they couldn't touch silver or wolfsbane. the could shift whenever they wanted not just during the full moon, thought it was harder to control your wolf when the moon was full . the wolves were inside them, like a little voice in the back if their mind, telling them what to do. and, yes, there are a such thing as mates. soul-mates. the one person made for you.

I was one of them. One of the creatures Hollywood told you to fear.

smack!

smack!

smack!

the sound of my fist hitting the punching bag faded into the background as I concentrated on my technique. it was almost six o'clock in the evening but I didn't stop for dinner. the gym was empty except for me. I practiced from sun up to sundown. being the runt I had to work hard to show that I deserved to be here. deserved to be in the pack.

I hate it.

I stopped hitting the bag and stepped out into the humid night air. I could her the distant sound of music from a party that I wasn't invited to. I wasn't aloud to do a lot of things. I couldn't go to school. I wasn't aloud to social functions. I wasn't even supposed to have any friends but some how Leo conviced Alpha to let me talk to him. what Alpha doesn't know is that was are roommates. really neither of us were aloud to but we got away with it.

I sighed and started walking down the path to my small cottage out in a secluded part of the territory. I loved the little house, surrounded by trees. there was a cute white picket fence and wild flowers grew everywhere in the impossibly green grass. ivy grew up one side of the tiny building and was starting to creep around to the front. the blue shutters and brick chimney added to the cuteness of it.

walking down the stone path to the front door, I unlocked it and stepped inside into the dark living room. odd, I thought. usually Leo was home by now. I turned on the lights.

"surprise!"

I nearly jumped out of skin when Leo popped up from behind the couch with one of those lame cone birthday hats strapped to his head. "what the hell?" I cussed.

Leo just chuckled and said "happy birthday, Nik."

"thank you, but you know I don't like celebrating my birthday." I sighed

"yes, but I got hats this year! hats, Nikki. and cake!"

my mouth watered at the thought of chocolate cake and vanilla icing. I've only ever eatten cake once, it was amazing, and had gotten a terrible beating afterwards. Leo and I only got the scraps from the pack so it was a miravle. "cake! how did you manage that!"

"ways, my sister-from-another-mister. ways."

I jumped up and down and did a little happy dance. "I love you, Leonard Millard."

"I know you do, Nikki. I love you too." he said softly, lovingly. Leo was like my big brother and my complete opposite. he had Blonde hair, cut short on the sides with a little bite of hair left at the top in a cute quiff and his eyes were the color of dark chocolate. his jaw was strong and masculine. if he were straight I probably would've had a crush on him and I'm sure any girl would be jealous of me but I didn't see the point. I mean,he likes dicks for gods sake, and I'm positive you don't have one.

Leo pulled off his shirt before going into the small kitchen to cut the cake. we had an unspoken agreement that if it was hot outside we could wear whatever we wanted inside since we didn't have an air conditioner.

I yelled a quick "I'm going to change!" and climbed the small spiral staircase to the finished attic also known as my bedroom. the walls were painted a pale purple and all the furniture were wood painted white. the bedspread and curtains were also white. but everywhere were my own paintings. I was an artist. my dream when I was young was to become an artist that people pay millions for my paintings but I very quickly relized that would never happen. on the dresser I painted vines with small pink flowers branching out. I did the same design on the bed and side table. but on the walls were framed paints all made by me. there had to be ten paintings. but my favorite was hanging above my bed. it was an oil painting of a small clearing in the woods. there was a small pond, the water glittering in the sun light. the wild flowers grew everywhere and the cherry blossom tree hung over the pond slightly, the pink blossoms floating in the blue water.

I changed into a pair of old gray sweatpants covered in paint and a white sports bra, before springing down the steps.

Leo had already cut the cake and was grabbing the plates. I got the forks and put a large piece of cake on both plates. sitting at the tiny table across from Leo, I smiled. this was perfect.

everything was perfect.

absolutely perfect.
