Screw it. Let's just go with this story

Mark's POV
I knocked on the front door of the all too familiar house. I had visited this house several times before and know the layout of it off by heart but I keep getting called back here. Neighbours say they hear screams and cries all the time and all through the night but everytime I come here there isn't anyone else besides the owner, Ken.

"Hey Officer. Get called out here again?" Ken asked casually as he opened the door.

"Yeah, different neighbor this time," I reply, stepping inside.

"Why do they keep calling to this house? You've checked this house so many times now. There isn't even the need to check it. I was about to have a bubble bath," Ken tried to persuade me to leave, staying at the door with my partner Felix.

"You know the rules Kenneth. I gotta do a search of the house just in case," I call out, scanning the house as I went from room to room. I walked down the hall but something out of place caught my eye.

A shelf that was usually centered at the end of the hall was shifted to the side a little, the corner of wood showing behind it. I frown and approach the shelf, shifting it to the side. A door was revealed and I scowled myself for not noticing it before.

I glanced back towards the door and heard Ken trying to start a conversation with Felix. We'd gotten to know Ken as a good guy but something about this hidden door makes me think he's been faking everything. I take in a deep breath and open the door.

A dark spiral staircase leads down, probably to a basement that circled under the house. I pull out my flashlight and flick it on, searching for a light switch. I slowly made my way down the stairs, turning a corner as I ran my hand over the cold stone walls. My hand finally finds a light switch and I flick it on, slightly blinded by the sudden light.

I blink a few times and allow my eyes to adjust before continuing down, a stale rust smell lingering in the air. I turn my torch off and put it back away, no longer needing it. I continued to search around before pausing at a noise. It sounded like a cough but weak and pained.

I search around and freeze upon seeing a young man backed into a corner. His clothes were bloodied and torn and he looked barely conscious. It reminded me of a case we were called to only a few days ago. Felix had found a male left to die after being tortured and raped. Maybe the same thing happened here.

The male didn't seem to realised I was there or even looked conscious at all until I got closer, accidentally kicking over a bucket of something. Loud clattering noises rang out at the males eyes shot open, revealing a dull grey blue colour. Fear consumed his face as he stared up at me, his breathing sharp and rigid.

"Hey, it's okay. I'm here to help you. I'm not going to hurt you," I say calmly and quietly. The male doesn't say anything or take his eyes off me as his body continues to shake. I hear footsteps upstairs but don't take my eyes off the weak citizen infront of me.

"Mark? Where the fuck did this come from? Are you down here?" Felix's voice floats down the stairs. I take a small step back to give the male space and turn my head to the side slightly.

"Yeah I'm down here Felix. But ah, can you call in back up and an ambulance. We got another one like Ryan," I say, keeping my voice down.

"What?" Felix says in confusion. His footsteps come closer but stop when he sees the male. "Shit. I'll call them straight away but what should I do with Ken?"

"Arrest him. That man is going to jail for life for doing this but don't let him catch on incase he tries something before you can," I say through gritted teeth. Felix nods and makes his way upstairs.

I look back at the fragile man to see tears running down his bruised and bloodied face. It broke my heart seeing another human like this and all I wanted to do was help but I didn't want to freak him out.

"What's your name?" I asked calmly. His mouth opened but closed again straight after, more tears running down his face. "It's okay, I'm not going to rush you." He shuts his eyes and let's out choked sobs. I wanted to rush forward and help but a gunshot stopped me.

"Shit. I'll be right back okay. Everything is going to be alright," I reassured the male before running upstairs and rushing outside. Felix was cuffing Ken's hands behind his back as blood poured out of Ken's leg.

"What the fuck happened?" I asked, hearing sirens go off in the background.

"The asshole tried to grab my gun and shoot me. Too bad it backfired and he ended up shooting himself. I'll get a paramedic to fix him up when they arrive," Felix says angrily. I nod, glaring daggers at Ken. I honestly thought he was a great guy. Guess I was wrong about that.

Paramedics soon arrived and took Ken away in a police truck. I quietly led two downstairs to where the male lay silent on the floor, looking barely conscious as his eyes struggled to stay open. It caused a sick feeling to boil in my stomach. I couldn't believe how horrible people were.

"The guys are searching the house for evidence on what happened. Delirious and Cartoonz are coming back down to see if they can get any informatuon on what happened from the male, who's name is apparently Sean McLoughlin, 21 years of age. He was reported missing three years ago," Felix said, his voice dropping near the end.

"I'm with you Felix. Now we should probably go report in to Evan. Tell him what we found," I say, heading towards our car. The whole drive all I could think about was how long he'd been down there. He was reported missing for three years. That means he must have been 19 when he was captured. It was my fault he had to suffer for so long...

1. I know Jack isn't actually 21 but just go with it okay.
2. Sorry for the frightful start :)
