PROMISES (ASL X READER)
WARNING: May contain some spoilers for those who've not made it past the Marine Ford arc. Read at your own risk. Enjoy!!
"Eh!? A marine?" three faces look down at you in shock and maybe a little bit of disgust.
"Yes!" you nod enthusiastically. A wide smile spreading across your face putting you two missing front teeth on full display. The four of you were at you secret hide out for the day while your older sister Makino and Dadan were discussing something back at the house.
"But Y/N-chan, we all agreed that we'd compete to see who'll be the pirate king someday." Luffy said tugging at your skirt. Ace snorted at that;
"No wonder the old fart likes you so much. He probably just brought you here just so you can try to convince us to become marines too." He answered, his face set in a scowl at your sudden revelation. The four of you were supposed to have an adventure at sea one day and here you were ruining everything. Girls! He though exasperatedly.
"I think it sounds nice." Sabo said sitting next to you. "It'll be like when we're playing cops and robbers, only this time it will be Pirates and Marines, it will be (Y/N's) job to catch us." Sabo said giving her a toothy smile.
"Heh...That sounds fun!" Luffy laughed. Ace just crossed his hands and let out "humph".

(Y/N) stood on the cliff staring out at the sea, watching as the colour of the sunset was reflected on the water. Ace had taken Luffy back to Dadan's after he'd cried himself to sleep. She wished she could cry as openly and freely as the younger boy but it felt as if her emotions were frozen behind a wall of thick eyes. She'd been dried eyed ever since Makino had broken the news of Sabo's death to her, her only thoughts had been of getting up to the mountain and being with Ace and Luffy.
Another chill went through her as the wind picked up before she felt something warm drape over her. "You'll catch a cold if you stay here longer." Ace said. He avoided eye contact but (Y/N) smiled a little at the flush that covered his cheeks.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"Figured you'd still be hanging around. I decided to keep you company, got a problem with that?" he asked rather rudely but (Y/N) chose to ignore him. They watched the sunset in silence before Ace spoke;
"(Y/N)?" Ace called, interrupting her thoughts.
"Hm?" she answered distractedly.
"You know what Luffy said earlier about getting stronger?" he asked, "I agree with him. I gonna start training to, I don't want the people I care about to get hurt anymore." He said looking her dead in the eye. (Y/N) flushed;
