                             Do What’s Right

“Holy crap.” Detective Gronkski said aloud.

“What do you have over there partner?” Detective Erin asked him.

“Don’t you know that new intern we have?”

“Dana Lewis?”

“Yeah that’s her. According to the files we have on her, Horizon Ryan aka Pinky is one of her best friends.” Detective Erin stared at his partner trying to figure out where he was heading. “Well Miss Horizon is ex-wife of Morris Black member Avery Hunnid and she also mothered a child to Morris Black member Riley Muniez. We never could figure out if Horizon was a part of Avery’s brother, Yayo murder when we had little evidence on her.” Detective Gronkski finished saying.

“And intern Dana can lead us to all of the clues that we need to charge us for that murder and also ten other ones that went unsolved.” Detective Erin got where his partner was going with this.

“See you catch on fast, now let’s go find Miss Lewis.”

Dana sat with her legs propped across Zion’s legs watching Basketball wives eating a bowl of fruit. Zion was on his laptop doing his office work when both of their heads turned towards the door. Dana got up to answer knowing it wasn’t Pinky since she had a key. She was surprised when two detectives stood in front of her grinning.

“May I help you?” She asked confused.

“Is anyone else home?” Detective Erin asked her.

“No, it’s just me and my boyfriend.”

“Well in that case may we come in and talk to you Miss Lewis?”

“Sure.” Dana let them in and led them towards the kitchen. “What may I help you fellas with today? Did I forget to fill out some paper work or anything?”

“No, none of that we will like your cooperation with us on the case we’re working on.” Detective Gronkski stated.

“Okay fine what can I do?”

“Your friend, Horizon has a history with...”

Dana’s smile turned into a frown when she heard Pinky’s name. “What does Horizon have to do with anything?”

“A lot actually.” Detective Gronkski started. “We believe she is responsible for about ten previous murders including the murder of her ex-husband’s brother and plus you being the pawn in this could lead us to her boyfriend uh, Life Valentine and the father of her kid Riley Muniez.”

Dana shook her head no and stared at them. “No, I won’t do it. I don’t believe that she’s responsible for what you’re accusing her of. I’ve been with her damn near her whole life and I know for a fact these are false. And concerning her boyfriend and the father of her child is none of my concern.”

“You’re making a huge mistake Miss Lewis this could definitely make your career and you’ll be the youngest detective in the office.” Detective Erin spoke disappointed by her response.

“He’s right and not to mention it could also break your career since you are affiliated with someone who’s under the radar.” Detective Gronkski toyed with her mind.

Dana held her head high and stood her ground. “Sorry find someone else for these false allegations. Thank you gentlemen I would have to ask you to leave now.”

“Well you know where to find us if you ever change your mind Miss Lewis.” Detective Erin added hoping her mind would change overnight.

Dana rushed them out of the house and closed the door behind them once they were out of the driveway. She couldn’t believe they would ask her to do such thing. And she wondered why and how did Pinky’s name came up on the murder board after all these years. Her mind flashed back to the night Pinky was raped by Yayo and Pinky ended up killing him with no remorse. She shook the thought out of her head and walked back over to where Zion was sitting. He sensed her body had a whole different gesture and knew something was bothering her.

Zion put his laptop to the side and gave her his full attention. “Talk to me. What’s the matter?”

“They want me to set her up...” Dana said shaking her head still not believing it. “They think since she is my best friend and I’m her housemate that I will just wire myself up and put her in jail for what would add up to a life sentence and expect me to lead her on and to tell me that Life and Riley are drug dealers.”

“Have you thought about what you are going to do?”

“What do you mean do I know what I’m going to do? Pinky is my fucking best friend I’m not going to do shit!” Dana raised her voice.

“Calm down bae, I know you’re not going to do that! I’m saying you can leave Pinky out of all this and still bug her to get the evidence you need on Life and Riley. You will keep your best friend and your job will be looking nice.”

Dana thought about what he had just said and shook her head. “Look I’m just going to try and get some sleep and I’ll call you later I have a lot on my mind.”

She kissed Zion good-bye and watched him leave. She sighed and went up to her room and lay down with her mind all over the place. Zion did give her a good proposition for the sake of her job but she still would be letting Pinky down by sending the ones she cared about to jail. She had a lot on her hands and either way it goes she’ll be known as a snake if she got caught.
