Chapter 6: Letters from Home

Much to her surprise, Calyssa was actually very much enjoying Hogwarts .

She had great friends , amazing feasts , and she loved all her classes , as she was an exceptional student and was also particularly good at Defense Against the Dark Arts . But she didn't participate much in class, or flaunt her intelligence ,as she didn't want to be seen as a know-it-all like her sister .

But Hermione picked up on Calyssa's smarts ,and as she was used to being the smartest witch in her year , she wanted to find out how Calyssa knew so much .

So later in the week ,Calyssa explained to Hermione how she came to acquire her vast knowledge of all things school related .

"So if I understand correctly, you were supposed to be a fifth year at Ilvermorny, but you were put in fourth year at Hogwarts ? Why ?"Hermione asked Calyssa one night in the common room when they were helping Ginny with her transfiguration homework .

"Well , Ilvermorny starts school about a week later than Hogwarts does , so since my birthdays on September second , I was technically still going to be fourteen when school started ." Said Calyssa

"Well , that explains a lot ." Hermione said whilst sighing .

"Wait ," added Ginny inquisitively.

"September second ? Calyssa that's tomorrow!
You should have told us ! We should throw you a party and make  you a cake !" Calyssa was very surprised that her new friends cared so much .

"Really? I wouldn't have wanted you guys to do all that anyways , I mean , I just got here , I don't expect everyone to make a huge deal about my birthday ". Calyssa said humbly

"How about this , we can have a small party in the girls dorm later tomorrow night , just us and the boys ! " said Hermione .

"I'll be alright with that ." Said Calyssa

"Me too ! I'm so excited!" Squeaked Ginny.

"Oh of course you are Ginny ." Calyssa said , a smirk on her face "Because Harry will be there".

"What's that supposed to mean ?" Said Ginny innocently.

"Come on Ginny , it's not hard to see you're obsessed with him , in fact, your thinking a about him right now .

"What ? I am not !" Ginny said as she began to blush furiously .

"Sure you are , i can see it now , his eyes , his smile , the way his hair blows in the wind when he's flying on his broom ... and -oh ! Gross ! Well I can't unsee that one ."

"How are you doing that ? Said Hermione .

"Doing what ? ".

"Reading my mind !" Said Ginny .

"Its simple , I'm a Legilimens ." Calyssa said calmly ."

"You're a what ?" Asked Ginny

"A Legilmens , means she reads minds ." Explained Hermione .

"Why are you two so surprised ? Aren't there tons of people like me here?" Calyssa said , confused .

"Well , not exactly," began Hermione

"And if we do , they probably wouldn't tell anyone , mind reading , well is viewed sort of as an invasion of privacy here ."

And just as Hermione finished speaking a small white owl with speckled brown wings flew in through through an open window with two letters clutched in its feet , and headed for Calyssa .
