"I don't know why you're worrying so much dear, it's not like you're gonna die or anything." My mother said as she sat on her iPad, playing another pointless game. I finished my bowl of off brand cereal and placed both our bowls into the sink. "I can't help it Mom, you understand what it's like going to a new school." I said as I pushed my chair in. "You'll be fine. Right, have you got everything?" I picked up my bag and swung it onto my arm. "Yes Mom." I walked through the hall and to the door, my mother following behind me. "See you later!" My mum said, with a smile on her face. We kissed and I opened the door. I walked out into the cold air and closed the door, my mother walking down the hall back to the kitchen as I did.
My first day of school, hell.
I caught my first glimpse of my new school Chamberlain High. It looked like my old school. "Oh god, what horrors await" I thought to myself. I looked to the front of the school and saw countless students. Some sitting on steps, some standing in small groups facing each other, like penguins huddling for warmth. I held onto the straps of my bag as I walked through the crowds. Suddenly, I heard a shout. "Hey, new kid!!" I turned around and faced a girl. She was one of the penguin group members. She had dark hair and was wearing an extremely short skirt. "What's your name?" She said. She sounded like one of those stereotypical snobby white girls from horror movies. "Conor" I replied. "So, Conor, where did you come from?" She asked. "Umm...." I tried to speak but I started to feel an anxiety building. "Aww, he's nervous" She shouted to her friends "So cute!!" Someone shouted. Another said "What a wuss" I turned around and started to walk up the stairs. Bunch of bitches.
A woman wearing P.E uniform stood with a clipboard waiting. She looked at me and smiled "You must be Conor, right? I'm Mrs Desjardin, the P.E teacher here." I smiled and replied "Nice to meet you" She prompted me to follow her into the school. We walked through the double doors and went down the hall. "Now down here is the English area, this place is maths....." I looked around, people were staring at me. Mrs Desjardin turned to face me while talking. "And this is your cla....oh Conor, your nose is bleeding." I gasped slightly and touched my nose. There was blood on my fingertips. I quickly went into my bag and grabbed some tissues. "Do you know where the toilets are?" I asked. "Yeah, just down there, don't get lost." I turned and paced down the hall. Some people were still staring at me whilst I walked."Holy shit" I heard someone say as I walked down the hall, my nose still bleeding. I looked around and finally saw the bathroom. I walked through and ran to the mirror. I stared at my reflection. The blood was nearly dripping to my mouth. Some of the blood had gotten onto my white polo shirt. "Oh great" I said in a whisper. I grabbed a few towels and wiped my nose, then wiped my shirt, only for it to smudge a little. "Oh, for fu-" The mirror in front of me broke. I was shocked by it. I stared at it for a few seconds then grabbed my bag and left. What the hell happened?
"You better?" Miss Desjardin asked as I walked towards her. "Yes, thank you" I replied, still wiping the dry blood on my shirt with no avail. "Your class is just in here." She smiled. "You know...there is this girl in your class that I know. Her name is Carrie White and let's just say...she isn't popular. Maybe you could try talking to her?" I thought about this for a second. Maybe she wasn't popular because people didn't understand her. "Sure, I'll try." I said. She smiled with joy and patted me in the shoulder. "Here's her photo." She showed me a picture of a young girl. She had dark hair and seemed tired. "Okay, I'll try and see if I can find her." Maybe she'll be nice. The bell rang. "Thank you Conor, I'll see you later." I waved bye to her, then walked into the classroom.
This first class I was in was English. A favourite of mine in my last school. Hopefully it stays that way in this school. I wandered into the classroom and a few others joined. Just your standard classroom layout. Posters on the wall, desks spread across the room in order of lanes. The random scrapings on the desk, which probably had words the teacher wouldn't be very fond of. The teachers desk was at the front, normal for classrooms. Behind the desk was a middle aged man with a stubbly beard and behind him was a chalk board, with a white board on the side of the chalkboard. I walked up to the teacher and said "Excuse me?"
He put his newspaper down on the desk and turned his chair to face me. "Yes, young sir?" He had a distinct smell of coffee. "I'm new here, I'm wondering where I'm supposed to sit?" He gasped very lightly and the smell got slightly stronger. "Yes, you're the new kid, Conor, yooou caaan siit over there" he pointed to an empty desk. It was close to the back and to the left of the room. I said thank you and turned to head to my desk. After settling into the desk and getting ready for the class, I saw someone walk through the door behind a group of "populars" as I could tell very easily. She was very familiar to me in a way. Then I realised she was the girl in the photograph. She was quite slim and held her books in the cliche "unpopular girl who was uncomfortable with being here" Carrie. I looked at her for a few seconds and she looked back. I smiled to her and she almost did too. Until the bitch started speaking "Carries checking out the new kid" Carrie looked down in sadness and embarrassment, walking to her desk, which was actually next to me. "Be quiet Chris" The teacher shouted. Carrie put her books on the desk and sat with her head leaning in the books. "Carrie, your name is?" I whispered to her. She turned to face me slightly and nodded. "My names Conor, it's nice to meet you" I lightly spoke. She smiled slightly but didn't say anything. I was starting to guess that she wasn't speaking because of Chris. "Do you know what we are studying?" I spoke to her again. She turned slightly again and said "R..Romeo and Juliet" I smiled and replied. "That's one of my favourites, do you like it?" "Y..yeah" The bell went and the teacher stood. "Today class, we will be on the next part of Romeo and Juliet. Conor, since you're just new here, I'll lend you a copy so you can catch up at home, I just realised I haven't told you my name, it's Mr Thomson." I replied with "it's okay, thank you"
As class went on, I noticed Carrie really liked reading, I was hoping she would talk to me more at break
