December 16 2002,i was just learning how to surf. I remember the waves in my face,the breeze in my hair. It was just perfect. Mom came to me and said,"honey wake up time for your surfboard lessons with your dad." I rolled out of bed got into my surfing outfit and i said to myself, "Time to hit the waves." So i got out there on the beach and seeing the big smile on my dads face i can tell he was proud that im doing this. Surfing runs in our family. There is a history of our family winning the championship, but none of us have won it since 1965, when my great grandfather Willie Smith had brought home the championship trouphy. I want to be the next to bring it home. So as i walked up to my dad "he said,"you know son im so proud of you to be doing this." Im competing for the surf lodge, its a competition thats held in Hawaii this year, and im going to attend.So as i was on the surf board lying on my stomach, waiting on the waves to come.Then all of a sudden i see a big wave coming, so i swim over there to where the waves are, jump on my feet, and for once i felt like i was flying.I cant believe it, itwas my first time on a surfboard and im riding like I've been doing it for years. I got so excited that i did a backflip. I guess i shouldnt have done rhat, because i landed in the water. "oops," I said. Then dad came over there nagging. "Son you need to keep your head straight, if you want to win this competition, you have to stay focus." So I hopped back on my surfboard and waited for some more waves to come. Here they come, so I swim over there and i jump to my feet. "You got it son, consentrate," I can hear my dad say. Then I saw My girlfriend, she was standing in the crowd watching me. After i was done i had to go up on the stage so they can announce the winner. "And the winner is Jake Smith." I won i cant beleive i won my first time surfing and i won.
(Few weeks later) It's the surf lodge competition. All the surfers went, it was my go. I surfed and i did a few tricks that i didnt know i knew i could do.I did my last trick and i was done. I went up on stage. "And the winner of the surf lodge is.......Jake Smith." I won, i really won. I get to take home the trouphy. My dad hurried up on the stage and hugged me. So what a night as i head home my girlfriend stops me i hug her and try to kiss her but she rejects it."Whats wrong." She says," this is not going to work out, i met some one cuter than you."
