Meg had already changed into black pyjama shorts and a white tank top when there was a small knock on the door. She had expected to see her father come in to wish her goodnight, or Roseanne to yell at her for some reason or another. But to her surprise, it was Rosy who opened the door.
The girl wore a pair of pink and white pyjamas and her blonde hair feel down to her shoulders in light waves.
"Hey Rosy," Meg greeted as the girl came over to hug her. "What's wrong?" Rosy smiled nervously up at her older sister.
"can you braid my hair please Meggy?"
"Of course! Come on," Meg lead her sister to the edge of the hotel bed "sit down."
They were silent as Meg braided Rosy's hair. She noticed how tense the little girl seemed. She knew Rosy was nervous about something, she just wasn't sure what it was. As she finished the second braid on the side of her sisters head, Rosy turned to her older sister.
"Meggy?" She asked quietly.
"Yeah?"
"Are you ever scared of anything?"
The question startled her. Meg didn't really have any fears. It's hard to be afraid of anything after what happened when she was a kid. But for her little sister- who was only 5- to ask such a question, it made Meg nervous.
"Why? Are you?" Meg asked stroking Rosy's golden locks.
"Yes," the child replied "I'm scared the airplane will crash and I'll get lost and never see you, or mommy or daddy again!" This touched Meg. How long had Rosy had this fear? "Aren't you scared?"
"No."
"Why not?" Meg was continuously surprised by this conversation.
She thought long and hard about what to say. Finally she said "Because i promise I will never let anything happen to you, or dad or your mom. I promise even if you do get lost, I will always find you and bring you home. I will always protect you," Meg kissed the top of Rosy's head "because I love you."
"Are you sure?" Rosy's eyes were shining with tears waiting to spill onto her blushing cheeks. "How do you know everything will be okay?"
"Because you're my baby sister and I will always, always protect you. That what big sisters do."
"I love you Meggy." Rosy grinned, suddenly reassured that it would all be ok.
"I love you too. Now go to bed, we've got a big day ahead of us."
"Can you come tuck me in?"
Rosy lead Meg over to one of the two queen sized beds in the other room. She hopped in and Meg pulled that sheets up.
"Goodnight Rosily." Meg said.
But Rosy didn't respond because she was already asleep. Meg walked over to her door and turned back to look at her dad in the other bed, laying next to Roseanne. She mouthed the words goodnight to her father and step mother. Roseanne glanced up from her issue of Cosmopolitan to glare at her step daughter and look back down.
Bitch Meg mouthed even though she knew Roseanne wasn't paying attention.
Language her father mouthed at her, but his eyes told her he was amused. She blew him a kiss and headed into her own room for a good nights sleep.Omg loved writing this chapter!
