[ pictured at the top is carter brooks, our main character! marcus hedbrandh is so-- ugh. i love him. you're free to picture him any way you want. :) ]

hello, hello! author here.

just a couple of things before you begin reading!

firstly, thank you so much for deciding to read this book -- i'm excited to be writing it. i've been working on this novel for a while now (specifically chapter one for months now) for a really long time, and i've had a blast writing up the characters and interactions and all that good stuff.

secondly, reminder that this novel is written in a boy's perspective. i don't know what it is, but i've always enjoyed reading teen fiction novels from the male's perspective. so, i decided to try and take matters into my own hands by writing in it myself! i just wanted to slip this reminder, ahaha. buuuuut, there may be occasional p.o.v switches, so watch out for those. ;)

lastly, i hope you all enjoy the book! i'm gonna try my best to keep with consistent updates, but knowing my schedule it's gonna end up kicking my ass, so updates probably won't be as constant as i'd like; however, i'm going to try my best!

thanks again and much love,

dim

Closing circles, shutting doors, finishing chapters, it doesn't matter what we call it;

What matters is to leave in the past those moments in life that are over."

"Yeah, don't worry, Mom -- me and Harps got here fine." I said to my mom over the phone, my lips turning upward into a small smile as I watched as my younger sister, Harper, stare in awe at our new boarding school, Cypress Academy. It was nice, I'll give it that.

Actually, it was more than "nice" -- saying it's "nice" was a severe understatement. We were currently standing in front of the main student aid building, and, let me tell you, this did not look like a student aid building in the slightest. It was modern and sleek, with double glass doors opening into the building. White marble columns adorned the building's entrance, and just the steps leading up to the student aid department felt fancy in itself. The columns supported a marble awning in front of the doors, casting shade and shelter from the hot sun. The rest of the building was made of (you guessed it!) marble and pristine windows with black borders. There were multiple levels to the student aid building, which I found completely unnecessary -- but hey, all power to you, Cypress Academy.

There were a couple other buildings scattered about as I looked around, all sleek and modern in their own way -- marble and clean windows seemed to be a common theme around here. I wasn't really sure of the other buildings' functionalities, but at a quick glance, I deducted that there was a pretty fancy looking café and some dorms.

"Well, you two have fun, and don't cause too much trouble," my mother's voice sounded through the phone. Harper was currently running excitedly up the stairs towards the building. "You two have only been gone for a day, and the house is already quiet. Your dad and I--"
