I pulled up to my families white spaniard estate, parking next to the extravagant fountain spewing out water in the center of our circular driveway. I moved my sunglasses from my eyes and perched them on top of my head, pushing back the voluminous curls that framed my face.

As I was passing the open gate, the guards welcomed me with their warm smiles. They really only ever saw me on special occasions and this was one of them. I usually went through the entrance of the west wing where my part of the house was... it was really my part of the house, honestly. Today was a special day because of the festivities that would be going on tonight and we had guests over.

Maids scurried about the grand foyer, as I walked through it on my way to the main room. I could smell the roasted lamb and other dishes the cooks were preparing in the kitchen. I walked through the dining room, making my way to where the white curtains floated in the room from the wind. I shuffled my feet out to the eastwing backyard, my dress flying behind me. I made my way out to the pool area, the soft noise of my feet padding across the white stones, where two ladies sat on lounge chairs drinking mimosas in their sun hats.

"Mama?" I said.

Both heads turned, one revealing my mother, her vigorous green eyes, upturned nose and caramel curls mirroring mine. Her hair was shoulder length and blew wildly around her youthful face. The other woman was the complete opposite of my mom. She was a bit pudgy with long honey blond hair and her warm brownie eyes pinched at the corners with crows feet. Other than the lines around her eyes, her skin held youth. Her eyes, full lips and glorious smile was the only similarities she had with her son. She exuded beauty every time her lips widened into a smile, revealing perfect white teeth.

Mrs. Anderson was giving me her 100 watt smile. "Lina-bear, dear, how are you?" Her relaxing Aussie voice sang.

"Great! I'm so happy to see you!" I smiled and sat next to her on the lounge chair, kissing her cheek. I looked in her eyes and just smiled. She was like my second mom. I hated it when her and Mr. Anderson moved back to Australia after their son graduated. They used to always visit but now it was only holidays. I missed her more than I thought I could.

There were so many things I needed to talk with her about but the only thing that surfaced to my mind at the moment was him. She knew it too. She raised an eyebrow to urge me on, something he sometimes did.

I blushed. It's so crazy how much she knew. She was the smartest women I had ever met. She knew I had a crush on him long before I even knew.

I remember when I was in second grade and he was in fifth grade, that summer the Andersons' would take us to the beach along with all our friends. Me and my friends would follow him and his friends around the beach giggling when we got to close and running when they turned around. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson would take me along to their family vacations every year and I would always want him to entertain me. I would bug him until he finally budged and stopped what he was doing. It brought me great joy when he would find me hiding in the tall grass in the fields by the their beach house. This whole time I just thought I loved him like a brother but Mrs. Anderson had been watching. She knew it was a different love. She would always tease us, saying we'd marry. It wasn't until my freshman year when I started to consider it.

"How's the boy?" She asked me, referring to her son.

My smile was small. I looked down at her hand that gripped my interlaced fingers. I shrugged and fought the tears trying to fight their way to the surface.

Mama, behind me, shifted and sighed. "Oh, here we go." She muttered.

I rolled my eyes, looking up at Mrs. Anderson, and exhaled. "I haven't really talked to him much." My voice broke. "I assume he has a lot going on."
