More Than Just Friends

Chapter Nine: Summer Vacation!

The morning sun had awaken in Hawaii, Ruby woke up with a smile on her face as she sat up and looked out the window. The view was beautiful just seeing the beach. She then saw Ken sound asleep while his arms were wrapped around her "so cute..." she whispered under her breath while putting her hand on his cheek. Ken opened his eyes and looked up at Ruby, he smiled and blushed while holding onto her hand.
"Good morning, Ruby."
"M-Morning!"
Ruby started to turn red and went to the bathroom to change. Sami busts open the door to where Ruby and Ken were and threw a pillow at Ken
"Ow! What the!?"
"No love bird craziness, until we start our first day of having fun in the beach!"
"Geez Sami, how many doors are you gonna bust open?"
"Enough for us to have fun! Now get dressed in your swim suits! And meet us outside!"
"Ugh...alright."
Sami then left as Ruby came out of the bathroom in her swimsuit, Ken putted on his glasses and saw Ruby in her swimsuit
"Uh...you can wait outside, I'll be out in a minute."
"Alright!"
Ruby went outside with everybody else, they all headed to the beach and set everything down, when they finished, Ken grabbed Ruby from behind and carried her to the ocean
"What the-!? Ken! Nooo!"
"Heh.."
They both went to the deep end of the water and started swimming until Sami grabbed a water gun and sprayed it at Ruby
"Stop! What the fuck Sami!?"
"Water fight!"
"Nooo! Go away~"
After spending the whole day at the beach, Sami, Leo and Bryan were collecting shells while Ruby and Ken were under the umbrella drying off.
The sun was setting and the wind made the waves of the ocean become calm.
"I found another shell! Only one more and I win the bet!"
"I found a rock...again."
"I found a crab."
While they were collecting shells and finding other things buried in the sand, Ruby was under the umbrella with a towel wrapped around her to dry off. She didn't look very happy...and she knew something was bothering her, Ken came back with a bottled water and saw Ruby unhappy with something.
"Ruby...is something wrong?"
"Huh? Oh sorry it's just...my mother used to send me here in this exact beach as a kid...."
"Really? Is she still around here in Hawaii? We can go see her! I'd be honored to-"
"No...she's...dead..so as my dad..."
"O-oh..I'm sorry.."
"Back then...I didn't have any friends, I would normally just worry about studies and nobody else...every summer my mom would bring me here to Hawaii, we would collect shells and find goodies that would be useful for us if we were lucky. But...things started to change when I started to be a 8th grader...my dad never payed attention to me, so it was only me and mom..until then...they had a divorce...I lived on my own after that, I do all the chores at home to show them how I'm doing...but..after living on my own, my mom died of cancer..she didn't make it, but for my dad...he never was the same after she died, he started drinking a lot and he had a concussion of his drinking..and had trouble breathing he..didn't make it after being sent to the hospital."
Ruby looked at Ken after telling him about her past, he had tears in his eyes and wanted to cry just hearing about what happened to her as a kid
"R-Ruby...I'm...sorry...this happened...to you..."
She went up to him and hugged him, trying to have him calm down and saying that it wasn't his fault.
"It's ok...I've been through hell long enough...I have you guys!"
"Y-yeah!"

Later that night, Sami and everyone else went to their rooms and went to bed. Ruby was in the vending machine getting a drink before heading to the room...the atmosphere was different than before for her..until she heard a loud bang against the wall, she turned around and glared at the person but paused and hesitated staring at the person. It was the girl that had published her diary before Ken and her were dating!
"Well...if it isn't Ruby, the little prick."
"Something you need?"
"Oh no, I just came by for 8 days of vacation and I saw you here so..."
"What you did was wrong last time. How would you feel if I published an embarrassing photo of you on social media?"
"Well you know what I would say...
B-I-T-C-H..."
Ruby was filled with anger, and you can see it in her eyes too. She grabbed a soda that she got from the machine and threw it at the girl (Tina)
"Ugh, great now you got me sticky from your soda!"
"Stay out of my life."
When Ruby left to her room, Tina's friends came out of the darkness smirking
"What should we do?"
"If that's how she wants to play...then so be it..."
"Plan B?"
"Plan B. We start tomorrow."
Meanwhile in Ruby's room, Ruby slammed the door hard and stomped to the bathroom to change to her pajamas. Ken woke up from the door slam and knocked on the bathroom door
"Ruby..you ok?"
"Everything's fine, Ken. Everything's just peachy!"
"A-are you sure?"
"Yes."
Ken started to get worried, but if he kept asking her if she's ok she would get more angry. Ruby came out of the bathroom and instead of sleeping on the bed she slept on the floor, Ken noticed ruby on the floor as he picked her up and set her on the bed and they both went to sleep.
The next morning, Ruby woke up and realized she was in bed instead of the floor, but she noticed that Ken wasn't with her. She got out of bed and went to find Ken outside of her room, Ken was outside the balcony sitting on the edge looking uneasy.
