The Other Sister
Chapter 6
Emily kept quiet as they drove back home. She had barely said a word to Annaline since they had ran into her old friends at the mall. That had been about three hours ago.
Annaline didn't know what to do. One of her fears was coming true. She hated talking about her sickness. It always caused problems. It was the sickness that had drove her and her friends a part, and now it was doing the same thing with Emily.
"I'm guessing you don't want me to tell Jase." Emily said. It was so sudden that Annaline couldn't help but jump slightly.
"I would prefer if you didn't." Annaline told her friend. "I'm not ready to tell him."
"Why are you keeping it a secret?" Emily asked. Annaline could hear how upset her friend was.
"Because I don't like talking about it." She told her friend.
"So you just decided to lie to us about what's been going on?" She asked as they pulled into her driveway.
"I've not been lying. I'm fine." Annaline told her friend.
"You said earlier that you thought it was coming back! You're still lying!" Emily exclaimed. Annaline didn't understand why her friend was getting so upset about this. She knew that she hadn't been telling them the complete truth, but she never expected Emily to react like she was.
"Em..." Annaline started to say, but she was cut off.
"I don't want to hear it anymore. Just go home." Emily said, getting out of the car quickly and running inside. Annaline was shocked. She didn't understand what was going on.
She just shook her head, tears falling down her cheeks. It was happening again. It was tearing her away from those she cared about.
-.-.-.-.-
Hours later, the tears were still falling. She curled up in her bed and tried her best to dispel them, but nothing worked. Nothing would make them disappear.
"Do I need to go kill the play boy?" She heard her sister ask. Annaline looked over and shook her head.
"He didn't do anything." She answered her sister.
"So why have you been up here crying since you got home?" Annalise asked.
"Emily and I went to the mall with our other friends. We ran into Mila and the others. One thing led to another and they found out about me being sick." She explained. A look of understanding crossed her sister's face.
"Does Jase know?" She asked, walking over to join her on the bed. Annaline shook her head.
"Not unless she told him. Thankfully he wasn't with us." She answered.
"When is your doctor's appointment to see if it's coming back?" Annalise asked her.
"Next Tuesday. I'm glad it's close, but I'm really scared. I don't want it to be back. I don't want what happened before to happen again." Annaline said as the tears began streaming down her cheeks even faster.
"It'll all be okay." Annalise said. "Even if it is back, that won't happen. Jase is nothing like he was. Jase wouldn't leave you because you're sick; he'd be right there by your side. Everything with Emily will all blow over. Things will be just fine."
"I really hope you're right." She told her sister.
"When am I ever wrong?" Her sister jokingly asked.
