Chapter 31: Raili

RAILI

I saw as Danika and Cheska were falling from the sky. I dove after them. With my right hand stretched, i grabbed Cheska by the collar, who stopped screaming. With my left, i grabbed Danika by the shirt while Cheska got on the horse. Danika, however, was blacked out.

"Danika, i cant hold you for long! Your slipping... Wake up!"

And as if on cue, Danika looked up at me. When i saw her, i screamed and accidentally dropped her. Her eyes werent her usual color, not green, but red. Deep red, which sent a shiver down my spine.

When i snapped out of my tantrum, i remembered Danika was still falling. Thankfully, i didnt need to worry. When i looked down, Tia was carrying Danika down safely. I guess she didnt notice her eyes... yet.

It didnt take long though, for when i landed the horse on the ground, they all screamed. Cheska and I got off the horse and ran to them.

Danika just stood there, breathing heavily, zombie like. She looked better, in a weird and scary way. She had a firm look, more serious, it suited her. But what scared everyone was her eyes, those blood red eyes.

Marielle walked forward.

"Uhm, Danny, are- are you okay?" she asked,

"Im fine..."  Danika replied.

Even her voice was different, more stern. It was like someone else was talking for her, but i knew it was her.

"I know where the Underworld is, follow me..."

Hesisating, we followed her through the streets of Las Vegas.

We followed Danika to the Underworld, not saying a word. The others were a bit scared, but not because of the place, but because of the one giving the tour guide. Danika was getting more 'scary', as Margaret put it.

"Stop. Did you hear that?"  Danika said, looking over her shoulder.

We stopped walking and listened, their was growling somewhere. Right on cue, the growling grew louder, and soon out of the shadows was a three-headed dog.

"Cerberus!" Katherine said.

But before Katherine could walk over to her gigantic pet, Danika ran after Cerberus, her sword drawn. It wasnt like her, she loved animals, especially oversized dogs.

"Danika, NO!" i shouted.

Danika stopped running, and looked around. Her eyes were filled with anger. I guess Cerberus could sense her energy, cause they backed up. Instead of going after Cerberus, she walked towards me. Everyone backed up as Danika got nearer and nearer.

She raised her sword and tried lashing it towards me, missing by a hair. I accidentally tripped, which was the worst time to do so.

"Danny, please, dont!" Tia cried out, her bow and arrow readied, pointing at Danika.

She had to make a choice.

Before she could though, i could just make out a face holding a black sword, hitting Danika at her side with the hilt. Danika fell unconsious, her sword turned to dust. I squinted my eyes to see the face, and found a familiar face staring at me.

"Nico!"

He forced a smile and helped me up. Tia and the others ran over to my side. Quite releaved.

But before we could celebrate, an evil laugh echoed. We looked at the direction at which Danika fell. She was up on her feet, her sword forming back from gold dust. Her eyes were extremely dark now, almost black.

"You havent won yet, demigods! The new war, has just begun!"
