It was late afternoon, and Clary was heading to the institute to check up on Jace. He still had Heaven's Fire inside of him, but the Silent Brothers assured everyone it would fade away eventually. Clary arrived at the institute and went up the elevator. She was greeted by the familiar sound of a cat's quiet meow.

Clary knelt down to rub the mischievous cat's stomach. "Hey, Chruch." The cat purred. "Where is everybody?" Church slowly got to his feet and led Clary into the library.

When she walked in, she first noticed Alec laying on one of the chairs with his legs dangling over the edge. He had his eyes closed, but when Clary took a step, his eyes shot open. Alec relaxed a little when he saw that it was just Clary.

"Oh, hey Clary." Alec gave her a small smile and stood up. "Jace is still in the infirmary."

Clary nodded and turned to go. "I'll go check on him." She was halfway out the the library when Alec's voice stopped her.

"Clary, wait up!" He came up running behind her. Clary began walking again with Alec beside her. "You know he doesn't want to hurt you, right?"

"Jace? He won't hurt me." She gave him a brave smile. "I'm not as fragile as you think." Alec simply nodded as they walked to the infirmary.

When they arrived, outside the door stood two Silent Brothers.

Clarissa Morgenstern, Brother Enoch spoke in her mind.

"I've come to see Jace," she informed him. She saw Alec shoot her a worried glance but stood her ground. She directed what she said more at Brother Zachariah because he was the one who let her in previously.

Jonathan already has two visitors. He requires no more, Brother Enoch's voice echoed inside her head.

Clary opened her mouth to disagree but was silenced when Brother Zachariah's voice too her side.

Let her go in,  Brother Zachariah allowed.

The door to the infirmary opened and Clary stepped in. Alec moved to follow her but was stopped by the two Silent Brothers.

You will not be following her inside, Alexander. Your friend will remain until the time where you can return, Brother Enoch said. Alec nodded and turned back into the corridor.

There were two women standing on opposite sides of Jace's bed. On the side Clary could see, she saw her mother speaking with the woman on the other side of the bed. Jace looked utterly startled looking from her mother to the unknown woman.

The girl standing opposite to her mother had long brown waves falling to her waist in perfect cascades. She had a pretty figure and was very petite. She wore a light pink dress that stopped just about her knees. Her white flats matched her outfit perfectly, and her slender arms hand at her sides. Clary's mother caught her eye, and the girl seemed to notice. She spun around, and upon seeing Clary, a bright smile grew on her face.

"Clary," Jocelyn said. "I want you to meet Tessa Gray."
