The streets of the quiet neighborhood were dark and desolate. Everyone lay sound asleep in their homes, unaware and innocent. For them, it was just another night. For others, it was far more.
A small annoyed sigh broke the pin-drop silence that hung in the air. In the dark alley, that all steered clear of, stood a mysterious cloaked man, glancing at his watch impatiently. His "partner" should have arrived ages ago. At this point, he wondered if he was going to appear at all. He knew that little brat was way in over his head.
He had no idea as to why the higher-ups decided to pick that kid for the mission. After all, he had more experience himself.
It should've been him to do the honors.
The soft padding of footsteps interrupted the man's train of thought and he could see the silhouette of a slightly smaller frame.
"Finally," The man shook his head irritably as he pulled the hood off the top of his head to reveal smooth matted blonde hair. His eyes glinted a hint of distaste. "Could you be any later?"
The boy pulled off his hood, rolling his eyes. His brown hair was disheveled and untidy, but it didn't affect his confidence.
"Be happy I showed, Nathaniel," the boy replied with a smirk, "I'm a busy kid."
Nathaniel massaged his temple in annoyance at the boy's disrespectful tone. This is what he meant when he had thought that the boy was way in over his head. Egoistic without backing.
"What could possibly be keeping you so busy?" Nathaniel asked, letting out an exasperated sigh.
"You know... school work, video games, plans to rule the world," He shrugged, the smirk never leaving his face.
"Dan, are you serious? " Nathaniel scoffed, tilting his head to the side slightly while shaking it. This was the most important event in their life and it was no time for jokes.
He then remembered the reason for this whole meeting in the first place. He looked anxiously at Dan. He prayed that the boy had it. After all, if he didn't, their plan would be an utter failure.
"Do you....have it?" Nathaniel asked cautiously.
The boy nodded before reaching into the pocket of his cloak to take out a small object to which Nathaniel let out a breath of relief. It was a small box. Antique-like. It seemed harmless, but Nathaniel touched it gingerly, as if afraid that it would bring damage to himself.
He chuckled, and his eyes became slightly crazed. This was it. This was the moment he had been waiting for.
It was finally time. Their lord would finally be free. Free from the place he was unrightfully imprisoned by... by... that woman. After centuries upon centuries of imprisonment, he could finally escape and once again bring change to this wretched world.
"We will free the lord," Nathaniel grinned evilly. His hands began to shake in violent excitement.
Dan rolled his eyes.
"You know...there is a way to say it without looking crazy," He shook his head with a small smirk.
But, then again. Who was he to say what was crazy and what was not? Dan chuckled quietly to himself.
I'll break him out using this," Nathaniel held up the box in a triumphant manner," he'll be free! And we will be by his side."
Oh, Nathaniel... It wasn't so simple.
