CHAPTER 1

"Abigail Ayala, meet Carbonara"

"Abigail!" I heard someone call out as I went down the stairs. I thought, maybe, It was I who she was calling. So I did turn to see who she was and as I expected, she was a stranger. She was not even calling 'me' to begin with. Yes, I am Abigail. But there are a hundred or more girls in this Academy with the name. The Abigail she was calling approached her. I, the other Abigail, looked like a moron. Many witnessed the case of mistaken identity that just happened. Or did I just make it all up in my head (like I always do)?

The tragic part of being one of the many Aigails, being inferior to the others. Not just the Abigails, but being inferior to others as well. That one, is another story.

As I was pondering, I missed a step and it didn't sink it right away that I was seconds, make that milli-seconds away from falling flat on my face, back or butt. They say humans are capable of reflex actions, maybe I wasn't human or one who lacked the "reflex actions" that God has endowed upon his creations.

Instead, I closed my eyes as I waited for that huge thump considering my weight. But I didn't hear a thump. No pain either. I heard someone groan. So after seconds I decided to finally open my eyes. I was glad that somehting broke my fall. Rather, someone broke my fall. Who is he? Then next, I exclaimed (in my thoughts of course) "Shit, I fell on top of him!!!" I thought as I hurried to get back up. "Oh, okay. So, any plans of helping me?" the guy said. He looked up and then... Then that answered my question on my savior's identity. My savior is none other than THE Patrick Lopez. I kept staring at him like the weirdo that I was. "Okaaaay, no plans of helping me up then," Patrick said as he tried to get up. But he wasn't able to. "So sorry, I was just... I was just..." I tried to explain as I helped him up. "Ouch, a broken arm here," Patrick said to me when he was back up. "Sorry sorry and thank you for breaking my fall," I said over and over again as I bowed my head. I felt that my face was flushed. "You forgot to apologize about your weight," he joked. "Hey! That's uncalled for!" I said as I hit him with my notebook. He tried to avoid my notebook, instead, my notebook hit his already broken right arm. "That really hurt, my arm," he reminded me. "I'll take you to the clinic, let's go," I said as I pulled his left arm , his other arm, the good arm.

“You just dragged me to the clinic!” Patrick said, as he was taking deep breaths. “Well, number one, I have to help you since I owe you and number two, I’m late for my next class.” I explained as I opened the clinic’s door. “Of course, your dragging me here is a deed that is far from what you owe me. You know that right?” Patrick said as he smiled. Oh that grin! If not for my self-restraint I could’ve fainted right then and there. But hell, I need to get him inside the clinic and dash to my next class. I could already imagine my professor giving me THE look. I completely ignored what Patrick just said, “After you sir!”

As he entered the clinic, I turned my back. In my head, I imagined him looking as I walked away. In reality? He closed the door and waited for his turn. I, on the other hand remembered my class, which at the moment, I was late for. I began to run.

I pushed the door to room 403, blurting out, “Sorry for being late, ma’am!” I bowed my head, waiting for her “lecture” on tardiness. What answered me was silence. Complete silence. There was nobody in the room. EPIC FAIL. As usual. Only this time, I was glad nobody saw me. On the blackboard, a note was posted, “NO CLASS”, it said. I sighed. I dragged myself out of the room.

I went down the stairs, this time, I was careful. Planting each step firmly. My conscience could not take another entry. Speaking of conscience, I remembered THE Patrick Lopez. As I reached the ground floor, I decided to check on Patrick. As I opened the door, I saw him sitting on the clinic sofa. I saw his back, to be specific. There was this girl who was sitting beside him. Then, I saw her planting a kiss on Patrick’s forehead. I turned around and went out the clinic. With my back against the clinic door, I fell silent.

“Hey, Bi,” Kayla tapped my shoulder. Before I got to greet her back, “How’s your first day?” she already continued. “You already know me, Kayla, of course… My day is pretty much the same accident-prone day,” I replied. “Haha, there you go again with your self-pity. Let’s grab lunch, you’re just hungry,” Kayla said to me, she wrapped her arm around mine and we walked towards the Canteen.

Kayla, you see, is my childhood friend. We have been best friends since we were in diapers. Up to now, we’re inseparable. Inseparable since this best friend of mine keeps on following me. I smiled as I thought about this. “Weirdo!” Kayla pinched my arm.  “The effff? What was that for?” I said as I pinched her arm back. “There you go again with your imagining. You’ll never get laid if you stay that way!” She replied as she took her lunch tray. “Look who’s talking. At least, I’m imagining things nearer earth. Unlike someone I know who dreams of marrying Niall Horan from One Direction. Dude, that’s completely out of this world!” I snapped back. “Ouch, Bi, that hurts!” Kayla replied, giggling. The two of us were giggling, laughing, the usual. But what made this day different was…

“Splaaaaat,” my lunch, Carbonara, found itself on another girl’s shirt. “Sorry, sorry, sorry!” I exclaimed in total shock. The girl too was in total shock. The expression on her face changed from shock to anger in seconds. “You klutz! You just ruined my imported Gucci Shirt!” She screamed as she wiped the carbonara off her shirt. “Sorry, I am. I’ll pay for your shirt,” I said. I turned around and saw Kayla giggling. The whole canteen was staring at the scene. “The hell? You say you will pay for my shirt? It’s 500 dollars, can you pay that much? Huh? Do you even know who I am?”  the girl retracted. “Well, yes, I can pay for your shirt, for sure and no, I do not know who you are” I answered, a little bit annoyed. “Sorry, a new student logging out!” Kayla intervened. She pulled me away from the girl. The girl pulled me from Kayla and said, “Oh, new student, I am Abigail Ayala. Heiress of the Ayalas. Student body preside…” the girl, Abigail, informed me. But before she finished Kayla already dragged me away. This time, too far from Abigail Ayala to reach me.

“Girl, that is THE Abigail Ayala. You are so dead!” Kayla warned. “I said I was sorry, Kayla. I did not mean it, not at all. Even if she is full of it,” I said. “Well, all I can say is, make the most out of your day today because tomorrow, you’re finished!” Kayla went on. “A funny joke, Kayla,” I said as I pulled my hair back, fishing some carbonara off my shirt. “I’m not joking, Bi, she will destroy you. A lot of girls have transferred because of her, others were not so lucky,” Kayla explained. “Trasnferring is not the worst part of her wrath? What is?” I asked, curious on how ferocious this Abigail really is. “Those who were unlucky got kicked out because Abigail requested it,” Kayla said, she was serious this time. I believed Kayla. I swallowed.

If ever some other disaster happens on your first day, let me know. Now, as I wait for anyone’s notification. I conclude that: Nothing will beat my first day.
