Scene 1

Narrator 1: let me tell you a story, one you may not believe. About a boy just like you and i, but only to the naked eye. In the day, he was fine, a pleasant old chap but when the clock strikes twelve. Midnight roams about. You may wonder who midnight is and i would love to say. But i have said to much i fear and someone's on their way.

(Narrator 1 leaves to stage left while Ava, Mathew, and Gabe enter in that order. they stop in center stage)

Ava Sanchez: so what do you two boys want to do today?

Gabe Sanchez: maybe we could go to-

Mathew Sanchez: toy store!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ava Sanchez: toy store it is then. Off we go.

(Gabe and Mathew silently argue in the background while narrator 2 speaks)

Narrator 2: Gabe and Mathew were brother's yes but all they could do was fight, argue, and disagree. If Gabe said yes, Mathew said no, if Gabe said dark Mathew said light, if Gabe said death Mathew said nothing, but because he was younger Ava, the boy's mother, always listened to Mathew.

Ava Sanchez: stop fighting you two.

Gabe Sanchez: but we went to the toy store last time. It's my turn to pick.

Ava Sanchez: ok where do you want to go?

Mathew Sanchez: that's not fair it's my turn!

(Kalaiah Stenlund walks in from stage right and stops when she hears Ava.)

Ava Sanchez: fine, fine we need a stalemate associate. Excuse me young lady.

Kalaiah Stenlund: (turns to Ava) yes?

Ava Sanchez: if you had a choice would you go to a toy store or a. (looks at Gabe) what was it?

Gabe Sanchez: medieval store with working guillotines.

Kalaiah Stenlund: uh, if it was me i would definitely go with the uh, (looks at Gabe and hesitates because he his evil staring at her) medieval store.

Gabe Sanchez: yes

Mathew Sanchez: wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Ava Sanchez: (sighs) okay, okay we'll go to the toy store.

Gabe Sanchez: but we put it to a vote. I won.

Ava Sanchez: Gabriel Sanchez not today he is giving me a headache. Maybe tomorrow.

Kalaiah Stenlund: sorry i don't think i was much help.

Gabe Sanchez: no. (Death stares Kalaiah) you weren't.

(Gabe, Ava and Mathew exit to stage left while Kalaiah exits stage right. Scene changes to the boy's bedroom. Mathew is jumping on his bed with his new toy.)

Narrator 3: as the family walked away, Gabe stared at the lady sending a shiver down her spine and words in her head, "no you weren't." Soon the sun laid its head down to rest and the moon started its ascent. The time on all the clocks was eleven fifty five and all but one house was sound asleep. Mathew had no intent of sleeping. Especially not now that he had his new toy. All that Gabe could do was wait him out or...

Gabe Sanchez: could you please just shut up and go to bed.

Mathew Sanchez: i am in bed.

Gabe Sanchez: then could you sleep in it instead of jumping on top of it?

Mathew Sanchez: uhhhhh, no

Gabe Sanchez: fine then just keep it down. It's almost twelve o'clock and i need some rest.
