It was finally summer, meant no more classes, no more people to interact with. "YAAAY" screamed my inner anti-social person. Who am I kidding? I'm anti-social person even on the outside, it's not like I try to hide it or something..
I was so excited about this summer. It was the summer of changes. Changes. I, Rylee, me is a grown up now. I just graduated college and I'm going to a local university next year for a psychology diploma. I've been waiting for this summer my whole like, I was going to spend it in the library reading every book I can find about psychology, until they finally kick me about from there.
I LOVED psychology. No, it's not about reading people's minds, but that option would be cool though. I just always wanted to help people in need, you know what I mean.. Those struggling with a mental illness or need help or whatever.. Yeah. I'm a nice person. It's no secret.
I was sitting on the swings in our backyard, reading a book (of course, I'm such a bookworm if I didn't mention). I had my long wavy brown hair pulled into a messy bun and wearing my favourite pyjama when my mum stood by the bench.. She was saying something I couldn't figure, but from the expressions on her face, I knew she wasn't happy.
"You're going to become deaf one day if you keep listening to loud music like this." She said after she pulled my earphones.
"Sorry was caught up in this book I didn't hear you, " I said, trying to put the book on the side next to me and sitting so she can sit next to me.
"Of course." She muted. "Anyway, this is not why I called you. Me and your father are going out and your brothers have already left. We won't be here until late tonight. I made your lasagna for dinner, it's in the fridge."
(If you didn't figure yet, I lived with my parents and my two brothers. As the youngest daughter, my two brothers always, and I mean ALWAYS had tried every prank on me. Ugh.. One day I'll make one... And succeed. )
"Where are you going? Can't I go with you??" I said as I was getting up as she was walking toward the kitchen door.
"No." She glared at me. "It's just the both of us. We have an important meeting."
I sat back on the swing. This was going to be a loooong day. I started reading my book again and I didn't realise that I've been sitting there for so long until my phone started vibrating. I was annoye as who would dare interruping my reading again. I unlocked it and it was a text from my friend Tamara. She was wondering where the hell I was.
Ooops. I was caught up in this book that I forgot I was supposed to go to her house like an hour ago.
I changed into my skinny jeans, a white shirt and my converse and cycled to her house, she lived 15 minutes away. (I loved cycling, lol something else you didn't know about me. You see I'm not just a lazy person, I really enjoyed sports and was fit actually.)
I loved hanging out with my best friend Tamara. We were so close since kindergarten when a girl tried to take my lunch when T showed up and defended me. Boom, we've talked since then and we became best friends. I smiled at the memory until I realised I'm almost there.
I knocked and she opened the door, she was wearing a floral summer dress and some pink flats with her long brown hair down her shoulders. She looked like she was going out. T was really beautiful and so kind. We were so different. She's a cheerleader and I'm the straight A student, she liked dresses and make up, I on the other hand, I was obsessed with bands and hoodies.
"I'm ready, let me just bring my handbag." She said walking to her bedroom.
"Ready for what?" I said confusedly following her.
"We're going out." She said smiling. "We need to buy new dresses for my cousin's wedding..? The one you are going to come with me too..? Remember?"
I mentally face palmed myself. I totally forgot about the wedding, she was DRAGGING me too. Wedding were not my thing. She sighted looking at my expression.
"I knew you forgot, haha, but believe me, we're going to have so much fun trying all these dresses." She said, grabbing her bag that was the her bed before heading toward the door.
We walked to the mall, that wasn't so far away. On our way, she kept babbling about the wedding. I meant talking. Unlike me, she loved weddings and socializing. I just looked at her, and nodded. I loved the way she was so excited about it.
Once we got there, she headed toward one of the shops.
"I know this one, it got the best dresses your going to love it." She said giggling.
Once we entered there, she didn't waste any second and started looking at the dresses once she liked one, she grabbed it. After a few minutes, it was time to try out the dresses she picked. Oh dear, how can I forget about this part. She pushed me toward one of the changing rooms and asked me to change into the first one she picked for me as she sat on the couch waiting for me. My eyes widened as I looked at the prices, but she kept saying that I didn't need to think about it as she was going to pay for the dress.
The first one was a knee length navy blue dress. I gotta admit this girl got a nice taste. I was so shy to go out with such a dress. But she pulled me out of the room and asked me to walk in it. Thank God I was not wearing high heels yet, or I wouldn't be able to move.
It was like the movies when the actress was trying dresses and her friends giving her feedback. I actually enjoyed it. We finally picked one of the dresses and we went home.
It was around 7PM when I got home, the light were shut down. I got into my room to put the shopping bags on my bed, when I heard some noise in the kitchen. I thought my parents and weren't going to be home this early neither my brothers. Even if they did, why would they leave the lights off?
I started shaking, I had to check what was happening so grabbed the first thing I found. A book. Such a great choice.. I started walking toward the kitchen.
"Anyone here?" I said. I mentally face palmed myself. I'm such an idiot. There's been another noise. I'm so scared, who could there be. I got into the kitchen and once I turned the lights on, I found out it was my cat. I had a black Egyptian cat. Cleopatre, what I call her. I know what you thinking, so creative I know.
She was eating her food. As I got closer to her to pet her, she ran through the door to the backyard. That's weird. The door was open, I thought I closed it as before I went out with T. I followed her. Someone I couldn't figure was standing in our backyard. A girl I think. She had her back to me and had my cat in her arms.
"Who are you..." I froze trying to figure what to do.
Whoever was there, turned out and I was surprised, this person looked like me. Literally like me. She had my cat in her hands. She was petting Cleopatre. And surprisingly my cat was enjoying it, she wouldn't let any stranger touch her. I started shaking and I couldn't talk. I didn't knew what to do. Before I say anything, the girl finally spoke :
"Save him." She said, putting down the cat on the ground before disappearing into the trees.
