Luca's POV
10 years earlier*
"Alpha rouges on the border!" Ethan, my dad's Beta shouted. Suddenly everyone was in uproar as they prepared for battle. I wanted to go, but my father forbade me to leave the house afraid a rouge would attack and kill me. I scoffed at his worries, but I couldn't really defy my father, the Alpha. So anytime there was an attack I'd be forced to stay behind with the other women and children who couldn't fight. It upset me every time. I was future Alpha of the Silver Moon pack. It was my duty to protect the pack. How could I do that if I was left behind constantly? Who cared if I was young? I was 8, plenty old enough to learn to fight. Being an Alpha gave me an added boost that the other werewolf children didn't have and I tried telling my parents, but of to no avail. Well this time would be different. I was going.
I snuck out a couple minutes after my parents left with the warriors. The blizzard outside seemed to give off an ominous feeling, but I brushed it off and charged into the snow. I had caught the scent of my pack and was following it till another scent stopped me in my tracks. Sweet vanilla and caramel assaulted my nose and before I knew what I was doing I was charging towards owner of the scent. I couldn't think properly. All that mattered was getting to the source of the tantalizing scent. As I got closer and closer I could see a figure laying in the snow shivering badly. I barked in anger. The person was in danger and I couldn't really tell why this upset me, but my wolf was in overdrive. My wolf Luke knew something I didn't. He took over and approached the person on the ground noticing it was a girl. Luke rubbed his nose on her and she quickly bolted up in surprise, but then fell pain etched in her features as she fell back onto the snow. Luke kept barking and tried getting her to follow us. She poorly attempted to cover her face as to see us, but it was no use. Gently grabbing her hand in our mouth Luke tried leading her with us. After a couple of steps though she collapsed. Worry filled me as Luke and I watched her pass out. We have to get her to safety I thought. Luke agreed and grabbed the hoodie of her coat dragging her against the snow into a nearby cave. I had found it one day after my dad got upset with me for asking to fight. Ever since then I retreated there to be alone.
After getting the girl there safely I shifted back into my human self and gathered logs to make a fire. I kept an emergency stash of everything I might need in case of emergency here. Something my father taught me. We always had to be prepared in case rouges attacked and we had to flee. After the fire had been set up I pushed the girl as close to fire as I could without risking her being burned. I then shifted back into my wolf form to lean against her and provide heat from my body. I hoped she would be ok. I couldn't even bear to think of what would happen if she were to be hurt. I didn't even know her, but suddenly I couldn't leave her side. I breathed in her scent and it seemed to calm me down. Her scent didn't smell off which meant she'd be fine. Usually when a werewolf was hurt or sick their scent would be a little bit off. I took comfort in knowing she would be fine and leaned my head on her stomach. I whined and prayed to the Moon Goddess that she'd wake up soon. After about an hour the girl started stirring. I quickly got off her and backed up. I didn't want to scare her. She looked at her surroundings obviously wondering what was going on. She tried to move closer to the fire, but she stopped groaning in pain. It took all my will power not to run to her and lick her face in comfort. I just wanted to take all her pain away. I never wanted to see her beautiful face contort in pain again.
I yipped and slowly started walking towards her as to not scare her too much. She immediately covered her head in fear. Hurt rippled through my chest at her actions. I didn't want her to be scared of me. I yipped again and rubbed my nose against the side of her head. She cautiously looked at me and I sat on my hind legs. When she tried to move away I growled. She wasn't going anywhere. I had to watch her. She froze and asked if I would eat her and I just titled my head. Why would I eat her? Werewolves didn't eat humans. She started crying and it broke my heart. I immediately shifted wanting to comfort her, but when she noticed my lack of clothes she quickly covered her eyes and gagged. I didn't understand what was wrong. Werewolves' clothes ripped when they shifted. It was pretty normal to see werewolves walk around with no clothing. Only the mated werewolves made sure to have clothes at all times as mates tended to get possessive when it came to their significant other.
