Taking a deep breath, I picked up the flashlight I was holding previously and looked and Dylan and Victoria. Dylan nodded his head "yes" to me, whilst Victoria nodded her head "no". I rolled my eyes and pivoted on my heel so I was facing the rusty doors that stood before me.
Once again, I rammed my body into the doors and crept down the hallway with Victoria and Dylan. This time it wasn't even that scary, the shock factor had worn off by now and we were all determined to find answers. We approached the drawings, pulling them down from the strings holding them. As soon as the drawings were in our possession, it was decided that it would be best to study them our room.
"Which one do you guys want to start with?" I asked them. Without saying anything, Dylan picked up the drawing of himself. I looked up at my "boyfriend" to see his face unemotional and straight. (Boyfriend is in quotes because he never actually asked me out officially). That was fake, he was scared and trying to hide it. But, I mean, who wouldn't be scared if they found a picture of themselves with a slit throat?
He looked up with his eyes squinted, like he was thinking hard about something. "Since these are drawings, don't you think there would be fingerprints left on the paper? It's clearly not drawn on an electronic device because of the eraser marks and smudges."
"Should we take it to the police? Could that help at all?" Victoria questioned.
I nodded head, "Yeah! Maybe that's a good idea. It's not gonna hurt if we don't find anything, it just won't be particularly helpful."
We looked at each other in agreement and began to gather important items, like phones and keys. Quietly slinking out of the room, down the stairs, and to the street, we were on our way to the local police station.
Upon arrival, we walked up to the front desk with the drawings in our hands and asked to speak with a detective. Moments later we were shooed into the office of Detective Walker, a middle aged Hispanic man. "What can I help you kids with?"
"We were wondering if it was possible for us to get this paper scanned for fingerprints? It's very important, the faster we could get it done, the better." Dylan spoke up.
"Why on Earth would you need a fingerprint scanning? Are you kids okay? You seen pretty shaken up..." Detective Walker said wearily.
"Well you see sir, the identification of that person's fingerprints could solve a lot of answers...like who the murderer of Donna and Ricard Hall is. Now you see how important this is." I spoke.
"The police are taking care of it, I can assure you." The Detective mentioned.
" Well that isn't good enough! Sir, those people were my parents and I need to figure out who did this. But you have no idea what happened to us that brings us this close to figuring things out. " I began to tell him the whole story of our journey up until this point.
He looked away at a picture frame with himself and a young boy showcased inside. Then he looked at me and smiled. He picked up the frame, " This is my son, Gustavo. He was abducted 3 years ago. As soon as I got that news, I promised him that I would find him and help any other kids that need it. Let's take a look at those photos, shall we?" Victoria handed him the drawings and he took them to another room.
We sat in that room, anxiety coursing through our veins from head to toe. The Detective came back into the room 20 minutes later with the drawings and another paper in his hand with test results. He handed them back to us silently.
Victoria gasped and handed the results to her brother. His jaw dropped down and his eyes widened. He gave me a warning glance, but handed over the papers anyways.
I couldn't believe what I had just laid my eyes upon. I was heart broken. The name on the paper:
Gianna Martinez
