Car horns blast through the air, disrupting the peaceful atmosphere of the cool, calm night. A cold breeze sweeps through the chilly air, making me shiver slightly as I pull my coat further around me, burying my head in the greying, matted fur around the hood. I would have worn something better for this special occasion, but I didn't have the time nor the money to go shopping.

I glance down at my wrist. 1 minute, 4 seconds. Hopping from one foot to another impatiently, I let out a breath, watching it turn into a miniature cloud in front of my face, and eventually evaporate into the air. Once again, the night was silent. The lights of a shop across the road turn off suddenly, making me jump a little and bury my face further into my fawn brown coat. It's covered with ink and food stains, from childhood memories.

Like when me and Andy tried to make a cake - we forgot to add the sugar, and it tasted terrible. Not to mention we spilled it everywhere and I got grounded for a week.

I take another look at my wrist. 40 seconds. My heart begins racing. What will they look like? Will they be tall, or short? Would I fall in love with them straight away, or would it take time to get to know them? I remember when we were eleven, me and Tina discussing what our soulmates might look like. She wanted a dashing, handsome man with dark brown hair and emerald green eyes who would bring her roses and kiss her cheek. I wasn't sure. Anything would suit me, really.

Headlights blare. A car comes rushing around the bend, running a red light. I hear a scream. I look down at my wrist.

    2 years, 49 seconds.
