Lily rushed outside like it was the best day of her life. I dragged after her. We headed outside of the research center and into the dark. It was almost pitch black. Lily pulled out her iPhone and turned on the flashlight. "Yes! Another one of us!" She squealed.
We kept walking until Lily sneezed. Her phone flew out of her hand and onto the icy path. I laughed, for the first time in forever. "Ha ha! Real smooth, Lily!" I said sarcastically. It takes a lot to offend Lily, so she just got up and started towards her phone. I waited for her, since her phone was my only source of light. Suddenly, I heard Lily scream. "Aaaaahhh!" I ran over to her as fast as I could and she grabbed onto me to pull herself up. "What is it?!" I asked. She pointed. There were marks on the snow. As I got closer, I realized they were some kind of red markings. Blood stains.
"Come on!!" I yelled. "Blood stains? That's what you were screaming about? Its probably just from some dead animal!" She looked angry. "Well, I'm sorry! I don't sit in front of the TV for hours watching Murder she Wrote! I'm not used to it!"
"Girls! Quit it!" We heard someone yell. George! He came up behind us grabbed my shoulder. Lily stuck out her tongue like we were 4th graders. We kept walking until we came to the landed helicopter. Andrew hopped out of the helicopter. He was tall, about 5'5 and he had dark hair that almost reached his blue-green eyes. He had thin lips and wide eyes. His ears stuck out further than usual. Not even Lily thought he was cute, and she thinks everyone is cute. "Hey." He said. "Newbies, huh? Well, don't get your hopes up. This place sucks."
"I know!" I said. "I hate it already." Andrew started walking towards the building. Soon, he saw the blood spots. "Lily found those. Their not really a big-" just then, he pulled a pocket knife from the mess with the initials R.D. Engraved on the side. Then he dug through the snow and dragged out a dead penguin. Lily screamed. I winced. Andrew looked shocked. "Rico." He muttered under his breath. Lily gasped. "Wait- Rico did this?" She asked. "The initials! Rico DeWinter!" Replied Andrew. "The penguins are supposed to be left untouched!" Then, Andrew pulled another penguin from the murder scene. I think Lily was about to pass out. Suddenly, we heard a deep, low voice.
"I believe that belongs to me."
