Today was the day Kristen couldn't wait for. The Cannes Film Festival was starting and Kristen felt ecstatic about attending and not as an actress, but a director. Her short film titled Come Swim was being criticized all over the place. Some reviews were positive and some were negative. She would never reveal where exactly she got the inspiration for her short film. So far all she had said about it to the press was that it was inspired from a painting in her garage, and also some poems that she had written a few years ago.

At that time she had been going through a heartbreak of epic proportions. Her life crumbled before her eyes, as the media tore her to shreds. But here she was five years later, feeling a little of sadness thinking back to Cannes 2012. In her opinion, it had been the last enjoyable time there. Sure, the festival in 2016 had been pretty good. She had been there for her movies Café Society and Personal Shopper, but every smile she gave were totally fake.

Even then, Kristen still thought of her first Cannes in 2012, because at the time it was him that made coming to these events less painful. And now, her mind couldn't stop replaying those moments again. How she had supported him for Cosmopolis. How they had shared intimate moments that were only supposed to be between them. Little did she know back then that it would be their first and last Cannes festival together. She would never forget it.

A tear slid down Kristen's cheek as she sat in the limo that was taking her to the red carpet, where she'd have to make interviews. Her hair was pulled back into a tiny ponytail that her short hair could muster. Her makeup was definite and covered up the circles around her eyes. She had been so hard on herself-barely sleeping and atrocious eating habits. Her weight fluctuated as a result of this, and she blamed everything onto her work. For the past two years, she had worked continuously. And as much as she tried to deny it, it was so she wouldn't feel lonely. When she wasn't working her mind was somewhere else, and it made her feel depressed. Even smoking wasn't cutting it anymore.

Kristen missed him with every fiber of her being. The way things ended between them was never what she had imagined. Of course, she never thought it would end between them at all. So, for the past couple of years, she had reportedly dated women, one right after the other. She thought that switching genders would help her, that was why she had started to date Alicia. But the truth was that she had forgotten how to basically survive on her own, and the thought of being alone terrified her.

The year 2012 had been a whirlwind of emotions for Kristen. After being "caught" with her director her life spiraled downward. No one knew what actually happened and she was determined that no one would find out. From then on, her life hadn't been the same. She was labeled the worst possible things, whore, trampire, cheater among other things. Her emotions got the best of her and she felt the need to protect the person she loved the most. When she released that statement the next day, it went in a way that she didn't expect. Instead of support, she got the opposite and it backfired onto her so much that her relationship with Robert took a toll. Mutually they decided to take a little bit of a break from each other. Eventually they got back together a few months later, but things weren't the same. The medias were cruel as ever and their agents were also pushing them apart. At the same time, all Rob and Kristen seemed to do was fight, and as a result, they split up for good.

And now, five years later Rob was engaged to Talilah, while Kristen was single. Well in real life she was, but according to the media she was shacking up with all kind of females. Kristen often chuckled about it. If only they knew the truth, about how she slept alone at night wishing his arms were wrapped around her like they had been many years ago. How she often stayed up most nights being busy filming because it meant she didn't have to sleep. Even thought time had passed, it seemed like yesterday, the heartbreak, the fear, the ridicule. Since them, it had died down but part of it was still there somewhere. Just looking up at any news about her, and you could bet that they would mention her so-called infidelity.

Kristen was now currently walking up the red carpet, letting out smiles here and there for the cameras. She was determined to no let this get to her. Yes, her film was about her breakup with Rob and her personal emotions of it. But she never said a word about it, but Kristen was pretty sure people secretly figured it out. It really didn't take a genius to do that.

Her movie premiere was tonight, and she knew she needed all the strength she could get. She wondered if Robert was at Cannes this year but then secretly hoped he wasn't. She didn't want him to see her like this, broken, beaten down. He could always read her like a book when she lied to him, but nowadays could that still be the case? Her mother was just like her, but she deemed her own daughter complicated.

Around seven at night, her movie was about to be projected. Kristen stood in a black dress along with her cast, whom at came to support her. But little did she know that someone else was here tonight and secretly watching.

Once the projection was over cheers and applause filled the area. Kristen was bombarded with hugs and congrats. She was genuinely happy with how her premiere turned out. An adrenaline high was going through her and that wasn't going away anytime soon. Pulling away from someone's hug, she caught something in the corner of her eye. Kristen could have sworn she had seen Robert standing out there. Maybe her mind was playing games with her having her subconscious wishing he was indeed here.

And that really was him, only she didn't know.

Kristen focused back on the people around her just to wain him out of her mind. It was then time for the after party. Going out there she got herself a little bit tipsy, and enjoyed it. What the hell, she thought, she deserved it.

Hours later she went to bed after having changed into a simple nightgown, with her hair a splayed mess. Her pillow was stained by tears like it happened most nights. Falling asleep she thought about him, wondering if he was thinking about her too.
