The Most Awkward Dinner Ever

We walked quickly through the busy streets of New York City, heading to apartment buildings.

"Take a right here." Miss Goldstein was leading us to her apartment. "Now before we go in, I'm not supposed to have men on the premises."

"In that case, Mr. Kowalski and I can easily find other arrangements and we can take Lily-"

"Oh no you don't!" So close. She yanked on our elbows again and we walked up the steps.

We were about halfway when the landlady called out. "That you, Tina?"

"Yes Mrs. Esposito." (A/N: took me forever to pronounce that name)

"Are you alone?"

"I'm always alone Mrs. Esposito." She called. She waited for a bit, then we climbed the rest of the stairs. She opened the door and shoved the three of us in and then walked in herself.

"Teenie, you brought men home." A younger girl appeared from around the corner. She was very pretty, with her shoulder length blonde hair.

"Gentlemen, Ms. Scamander, this is my sister, Queenie." She gestured to her.

"Queenie, this is Mr. Scamander, and his sister Ms. Scamander. They've made a serious infraction of the Statute of Secrecy.

"They're criminals?" That's a bit harsh.

"Uh huh. And this is Mr. Kowalski. He's a No-maj who-"

"A No-maj? Teen, what are you up to?" Queenie, looked astonished. Not scolding, interested.

"He's sick. It's a long story.Mind putting something on Queenie?"

"Oh, sure." She said not bothered. Mr. Kowalski stared at her in awe as a silky dark blue dress slid on her. He then proceeded to break out into a sweat, and collapsed on the sofa. "You need to sit down, honey! Oh that's rough, and he didn't get the money for his bakery! You bake honey? I love to cook!" Then it dawned on me. She was a Legimins.

"You're a Legimins?" Newt said, from where we leaned awkwardly against the window.

"Uh huh. But I always have trouble with your kind. Brits. It's the accent." She stared at me, and I could tell she was trying to figure me out. The past was a good way to judge people, but my past was so... Hard. It hurt to try and tell it, and it took me days after the... Incident to tell Newt. Even when I told my other brother, Theseus, he scoffed and said I was lying. 'You're lying, Beth. You've always been a liar.'

Without realising it, boiling water drops formed in my palms. I controlled them, and they disappeared. I had a feeling Queenie already knew.

The two sisters started making dinner. I looked by me, and noticed that Newt wasn't there. He was attempting to sneak out the front door. Wow.

"Hey, Mr. Scamander?" Newt froze in his tracks. "You prefer pie or strudel?"

"I-I really don't have a preference." He said, embarrassed he was caught. Her sister looked at him in disappointment and... Hurt?

Queenie looked at me.

"I don't mind."

"You prefer strudel huh honey?" She looked at Jacob, who was sat, and smiled. "Strudel it is."

You realise how stupid that was?

Why?

She's a Legimins. She can tell if you're going to run of if you make it that obvious.

I couldn't see Newt's face, but I could tell he rolled his eyes. I returned the favor.

The two Goldsteins waved their wands and ingredients, plates, cup, and silverware flew into the correct positions. It had been a while since I had been in a magic house, not a case or a cell.  I couldn't help but watch.

"Well, sit down Mr. and Ms. Scamander. We're not gonna poison you." She was serious, but also trying to loosen the mood with a bit of humor.

We went over and sat down. Newt was across from Tina, and I was beside him on the edge.  Queenie and Mr. Kowalski were chatting and seemed to get on perfectly.

"I am not flirting." Queenie suddenly said.

"I'm just saying, don't go getting to attached. He'll have to be obliviated. It's nothing personal." She assured him. He nodded, and then started breaking out in sweats, still trying to impress Queenie.

"Oh, you okay, honey?"  She asked, now worried.  I looked at Newt and he nodded. We both stood up.

"Ms. Goldstein, I think Mr. Kowalski could do with an early night. Besides, you and I will need to be up early to look for my niffler." Newt said, with a sort of professional attitude I hadn't heard before.

"What's a niffler?" Queenie asked, confused.

"It's probably best not to ask." I said, not wanting to explain.

"Alright, you boys can bunk in here and Ms. Scamander..." Tina said.

I cut her off. "I have a cot in the case." She looked at me suspicious. "There's no easy way for me, or any of us, for that matter, to run off."

"Alright." The three of us walked into the bedroom. I went to the case, and Newt and Mr. Kowalski climbed into the beds.

It had been a weird day.

A/N: Yay!! Chapter eight! If it isn't obvious, I am only focusing on the main four (well, in this case,(hehe) five.) So there really isn't going to be any Credence or Graves until those characters run into them. More hints/points to Lily's weird past. I really suck at subtly giving hints, so if you've got an idea on what happened, let me know!!
Bye
