We left the town of Charter about an hour after our little talk, we walked due east for about four hours until we were about a mile away from the town town to the east that I still don't know the name of. We made our way into a woodsy area, the trees had few leaves but the ones that still were there were brown and rotting like the trees that they were attached to. The ground was soft and wet, the air was damp as if it had rained but from what we had been told it hadn't rained for a month where we were going. We had just assumed it was the summer weather acting up a bit but we paid no attention to it, well everyone besides Marc didn't mind it,
"Sir, hate to be a pain but how am I supposed to see where I'm shooting if I can't see five feet in front of me?"
I hadn't thought about it until then, Marc was useless in these conditions,
"Well, you could always take Wei's job for a little while and supply us with ammo."
"Yeah, I guess, but if I need to how am I supposed to kill a man that I can't see?"
"Use your pistol and fire in his general direction, just make sure that one of us isn't in your line of fire."
"How am I supposed to know if any of you are in front of me?"
As we walked for a bit I thought about it for a while, how was he supposed to know?, he couldn't just yell, "Are you guys in front of me?" That is basically just telling the enemy? "I'm gonna shoot in front of me!", I thought about this for about another five minutes or so and then I thought of something,
"Okay, what if you yelled "thunder" and then we'll respond with "flash" if you hear all of us behind you then it's safe to shoot."
He thought about it for a minute he was clearly thinking about why I was using "thunder" and "flash" but he decided not to question it and just shook his head in agreement.
We walked for another hour or so before the fog got really bad, it was so bad we couldn't see five feet in front of us,
"Was everybody listening to the conversation Marc and I had like an hour ago?"
Hank blurted out "thunder flash?"
"Yup, look around, tell me what you see."
They did as they were told and looked around
"I can't see nothing" Dany blurted out.
The rest all agreed almost in unison with Dany,
"Exactly, so I want all of you to use the "thunder flash" method just so we know no where you are and you know where we are, got it?"
They all agreed with me and we continued along our little adventure.
We weren't able to travel very far the fog got so bad that we decided to stop and rest n the middle of what seemed like to be a field of some sort but because of our limited vision it was almost impossible to tell. When we sat down Will spoke up,
"With all do respect sir, where the hell are we?" I looked around and realized that I had no idea where we were,
"That is a mighty fine question, unfortunately I don't know the answer to that fantastic question."
I could almost feel the disappointment radiating off of their minds and being shot right at me. I hate the feeling of disappointment and failure, but unfortunately we all suffer from it and can't escape it but that's okay because we can make up for those things that cause disappointment and failure, that's what they taught us in the core anyway.
We decided to keep going the way that we were going; due east, always repeating in my head due east.
