"Hello can I help you with anything? What book are you searching for?" The librarian lady asked. She had small circled framed glasses and she was really skinny, with grey hair.
"Something along the lines of 'Please help me, I'm an obese loser who sits on the couch all day, drowning in self pity?'' " I said in a sarcastic tone.
The lady looked at me confusedly until my best friend stepped in.
"We're good, thank you." Simon said and smiled.
"You're not obese." He said to me and rolled his eyes.
"Easy for you to say." I said, examining every singe book on the self help shelf.
How would I describe Simon?
A perfect, athletic looking dude that's really popular in our school. A walking cliche, being every girl's crush. They think of him as this god who is just perfect in everything he does.
They adore that side of Simon Minter. Everyone does.
But there's also another side. Many more. One of the most fun, if not the funnest side is the lanky and funny side. He's not so stiff and snobbish how you would imagine every popular guy. Well, sometimes he's very picky with food, but I think I'll let him off the hook with that one.
We've been friends since we were both 6 years old. It was a really ironical way we met. He stepped on my shoe and made me fall over. He called me fat and his mum made him apologise to me. He has never called me fat ever since that, but when we get into fights, I always bring it up and we start joking. It's sad as much as it is ironic, really.
We go to our school library every Tuesday for our lunch break. And I usually end up in this self-help side.
I picked out a book that was entitled as 'Positivism to Self Love'
"You don't need this." He said and took the book out of my hand. He raised his arm so I couldn't reach the book.
"Hey, give me that." I said and stood on the tip of my toes as I tried to reach it.
"That's bullying." I said and crossed my arms. He chuckled and put the book on the top shelf.
"Let's just go to our class." He said as I rolled my eyes.
We walked through the hallway, with most people looking at us. Not because of me, obviously. Well in some kind of silly way, sometimes because of me too.
They usually call us the chubby and lanky. It's weird seeing us together. A 5'6 chubby girl with glasses and a 6'2 lanky, yet sporty guy that looks enormously tall and skinny compared to her. Oh, and not to mention all the silly glares I get from the other girls, popular girls.
Plus, all the comments we get about looking like the brothers from the movie "twins". You know, the one with real tall Arnold Schwarzenegger and the short weird Danny DeVito.
I can get over the comments but not the way they always interrupt us.
Have you ever seen Piranha? But the old, original version, not the rest of the sequels because they sucked? Yeah, it's exactly like that.
They violently invade everything just to go for the flesh, Simon. They hope he would notice them. Oh, and he does. Last year, I spent 3 months giving him the advice about this girl. It's always the same. They get together and break up.
Yeah, there's also that stupid side of Simon Minter.
