“Err… err… w-w-where am-m I?”

The anaesthetic was finally wearing off and Cathy Judith Limerick found herself waking up.  She was surrounded by people so hurriedly speaking that Cathy couldn’t understand them, she was so thirsty her mouth felt like it was full of sawdust.   she only had one thought rushing through her head.  'Where was she?'

“W-w-who ar-r-re you?  Why am I here?”

Cathy realisied that she was tied to a chair started screaming at the hurriedly chatting people in their creaseless black suits.  Cathy was panicking.  Her breathing quinkening.  She could feel an asthma attack was starting and she needed to calm down.  A light shone on Cathy it was so blindingly bright that it was about a minute before her eyes adjusted.

A woman with a crisp long-skirted suit and speech to match spoke in a formal to-the-point voice.  She had a tight bun that kept her chestnut hair secure.

“You’re name is Catherine Judith Limerick, born 31st of January 1995.  You live with your uncle and aunt at number 124 Clasher Drive, Prestatyn, Wales, is this not correct?”

Waiting for no reply the woman continued.

“You’re parents were Samuel and Laney Limerick and they were agents for the Witness Protection Programme.  But you didn’t know that did you? No?  We have brought you her Miss Limerick because we are to believe you are in mortal danger and that is something we cannot allow.”

“Who…”

“Are we? Ah yes my name is Agent Dee and this will be your new home for the next few weeks.  Don’t worry though you are safe here”

Cathy had now calmed her breathing and cleared her said “Well you would say that, wouldn’t you?  What kind of person whose job it is to protect, kidnaps a sixteen year old girl?  Plus my parents weren’t agents my dad was a police officer and my mother was an accountant for the company AGF and Co.”

“No Cathy that is what your uncle and aunt told you instead of endangering you with the truth.  You see many years ago we sent your parents on the most dangerous, most top-priority mission there is and they never returned, following this Laney had just given birth to a small asthmatic baby, I’m sure you can relate to this, anyway this baby was left in the custody of Agent Samuel’s brother and he was warned you would be in danger but he wanted to keep you, teach you, treat you as his own.  He hated his brothers job, despised it even.”

All these hurriedly speaking people were people Cathy had all seen before but in her massive state of shock and fear she was struggling to remember her own name.

“You’re lying, I know you are. Now let me go, there was never an Agent S or Agent L that was ever related to me, you’ve clearly got the wrong person now let me GOOOO!”

Undoing the restraints the ‘kidnappers’ had put on Cathy she sprung to her feet only realising that they felt like jelly but she kept herself up right long enough to disarm the guard at the door and to run down the corridor until she felt a sharp pain throughout her body.  She looked down at her leg where she saw a dart sticking out. Vision blurring she heard one last thing.

“It’s for your own good Cathy Limerick”

Cathy sank once again into unconsciousness.
