I was just listening to my music until my mom came rushing in my room.
"M-mom! What was that for," I said.
"Oh, sorry honey. I just got the mail in the mailbox and found out when school starts," she started, but unfortunately didn't finish, "Your starting school on August 9th. I'm so happy for you to be a sophomore," she said and finally finished.
"Hm. Well don't get too excited or this girl will just keep getting older and smarter way too fast," I said with a smile on my face. "When does my younger brother start school?"
"Oh. Um, he starts school on August 11th," she said calmly but also annoyingly.
"Lucky," I said. "Well I guess we could go shopping for some new clothes. Since that's what we do every year."
"Your right. Tomorrow we are going shopping for your new clothes," she said with a big happy smile on her face.
"Yo. I just overheard you guys talking about clothes for school. Can I come with you guys," my little brother said. (who was in 8th grade btw)
"Ha! I told you! You always eavesdrop on my conversations with mother," I said with a grin. He just stared at me all weirdly.
"Oh really. I was eating some delicious food in the kitchen and was heading for my room when I heard you talking about school I just wanted to join in on the conversation," he said. "Well lucky for me I don't have a girlfriend unlike you who has a boyfriend. I bet you just LOVE him so much. Who knows what trouble you guys cause at his house," my brother said giggling.
"Enough Toshiaki Hirano," my mom said out loud. Me and my brother just stood still.
"Mom," my brother grunted. "Stop calling me by my full name and start calling me by my nickname, Toshi. Besides my nickname sounds way cooler.
"Fine. Toshi. Go to your room. I need to talk to your sister in private," she said. He started to say something but my mom stopped him. "Now!" He then walked to his room and shut his door. "Finally, some privacy. So, anyway I wanted to talk about your father."
"Oh, my father," I started to frown but stopped myself. "W-why do you want to talk about him?"
"Well your always sad when I talk about him so I figured that I could tell you some of his amazing stories," she said.
"M-mom, it's ok you don't need to talk to him because...," I started to say but then the phone rang.
"Let me get that dear. You stay here," she said and then left my room. I heard her talking but couldn't get all the words she said so I just laid on my bed and waited. "Good news! I finally have a job!"
"Y-you do!? That's great. But, what job did you get," I asked her.
"Well, I'm a professor at a college. But the college is in another city. So, I won't be seeing you all day. Well, the only days you will be seeing me is on breaks and holidays of course. But apart from that, I won't be able to see my beautiful children grow up and learn."
"Mom! If your leaving does that mean I'm in charge," I asked with an excited grin on my face.
"Sure. Well, you are the oldest, so why not," she said.
"YES! So when are you starting your job," I asked.
"Before your first day of school," she said. "I'm still depressed that I won't be seeing you guys often."
"Me too, Mom," I said. I looked at the time. It was only 6:23. "Well, I guess we should make these days last as long as we can," I said we a half smile.
"Yeah. I agree. Hey, how about we watch a movie together as a family," she said. "I'll make sure to pop some butter popcorn and get some candy out."
"YES! Hey, do we still have licorice and chocolate," I asked her. She nodded and brother overheard us or eavesdropped on us AGAIN and then we headed toward the kitchen to prepare the movie food.
