                                        Chapter 1 “Instant Transportation”

It has been two years, eleven months, and three days since my father, Cyrus passed away. Yet, my family and I still can’t get over it. Once somebody’s gone, they’re never really, gone. Whether it be visions, flashbacks, pictures, videos, maybe you even get a sign from them every once in a while. The point is, they’re still there. That’s how it is for me, only it’s a bit more complicated then that…

I never knew where my dad worked, or even what he did. I believe he was the head of CIA. But I guess that doesn’t really matter anymore. My mom, Teresa was talking on the phone with someone about dad. I tried to listen in on their conversation but my mom hung up before I even got the chance. After she hung up she immediately dashed outside to her car. I ran out after her, “Mom! What’s wrong? Where are you going?” “Honey, I have to go run a few errands, alright? Look after your brother and sister, I’ll be home in a few hours! If you guys get hungry, there’s sandwiches in the fridge!” Just like that my mother was gone. Why was she being so secretive, what was there to hide? I had to know where my mother was going. I went back inside to see my little sister, Amy walking down the stairs. She looked as if she had been hit by a train. While she was rubbing her eyes she asked me, “Emma, where’s mommy?” “Um, Amy, mom had to go do some things.” “But, when will she be back? When did she leave?” Keep in mind that my sister is only nine, she asks a LOT of questions for a little girl. “Aims,” I call her Aims for short, “She’ll be back in a few hours. She left a few minutes ago.” “Oh, okay.” Amy walked over to the living room and plopped down on the couch. All of a sudden, Amy and I heard a loud bump come from upstairs. I ran upstairs, quick. There was garbage everywhere, there was red paint all over the walls forming the letter, X. And to top it all off, there was glass shattered under the once pretty mirror in the hallway.

“Amy, stay back.” I said to my alerted little sister. I slowly explored the rooms, one by one, watching out for glass. I looked back at Amy, she was pointing at something. I whispered, “Amy what is it? Amy!” I had never seen such fear in my little sisters eyes. I turned my head, carefully in the direction of which she pointed. “Ah!-” I was knocked to the floor. I tried to get up but it was as if something was restraining me, or someone. I could barely even open my eyes! As I almost blacked out, all I heard was, “Emma! Help me!” I saw something sharp in the corner of my eye, figuring it was a piece of glass, I grabbed it and crawled towards Amy. “Amy, where are you?” I whispered, “Amy!” It was dead silent, only a few moments later did I hear the faint sound of my little sisters voice. “Psst, Emma. Over here!” I followed the sound of her voice, “Emma, look out!” I felt someone try to grab me but I slashed them with the glass shard. I heard a thump as they fell to the floor. “Is it safe?” I asked her, “Yeah, I think so.” Amy ran up to me and gave me the biggest hug she’s ever given me. “Let me help you!” Amy said worryingly, she got up and walked away for a moment, I don’t know what she got, but it surely did help. “Here, wipe your eyes and drink this.” The softness of the warm towel really helped my vision get back in focus. The drink however, tasted like camel spit, also known as, tap water, don’t ask. I could finally see again! Amy, letting go of her embrace, gave me a big smile. Though I can tell she‘s never been more afraid. I gave her one back, when I realized my little brother was home as well. *GASP!* “Aims! Where’s Jackson!” We both slowly turned around and found that the thing that attacked us, was no longer lying on the floor. It was gone. “Amy, I mean it this time, stay here!” “But I wanna help!” Ignoring her statement I crawled to my brothers open door. I wanted to make sure that he was in there before risking my vision again. “Jackson. Are you in there?” No response. Aw screw it… I barged through the door with another glass shard in my hand. I found Jackson rocking back and forth in the corner of his closet. “Jack! Oh thank goodness you’re safe!”
