After his visit to Irene in the United Kingdom, Soal was satisfied in the ways in which they could communicate: by phone, by letter, or by more internet-savvy means. He, Polo, and Alice returned to Massachusetts (or Pennsylvania, for the next week); Polo prideful, Alice confused yet forgiving.
Alice, unsure of her next action regarding Soal ("Sam"), decided; as a return of the favor for Soal to bid her; to take him with her on her visit to the boarding school in early October, whose development was underway. However, it was all the way in Ohio; and eventually, the family would have to move to fully support it alongside Alice's friend, Shirley, who was also designing the boarding school.
Soal was weary from his long journeys. He had wanted to return to Irene, and that was what he had wanted. Not to the miserable boarding school.
At least it would not be so bad in 2019, by Soal's conclusion. This was really quite a strange coincidence. Moth said that Soal would land at a very specific time for a very specific reason. But that reason was not prone on revealing itself, by itself. In a way, only time would tell.
