Cold As Ice

Prologue

                     *10 years earlier*
"Hazel honey, come down here please"

"Coming mommy!"
I called as I ran down the stairs. 

"Yes mommy?"

"Happy birthday my love"
she said pulling me into a hug.

"Oh before I forget, I have a special present for you before your party!"

She said handing me a nicely wrapped present.

I opened it.

"It's a teddy bear!"
I said sqeezing it.

"It's a very special teddy, if you ever feel lonely just hug it and everything will get better"

   *knock knock*

"Oh that must be your guests!" My mom said in excitement.

"Yay!"
I yelled greeting my aunt at the door.

Soon after our house was full of relatives and a few neighboors.

"Alright time for cake"
my mom said bringing the cake to the table.

Everyone started to sing.

  "Happy birthday to you happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear hazel happy birthday to you!"

After everyone ate it was finally time for presents. 

"And the last one is from Aunt Eleanor"

I ripped it open full of excitement.  It was a beautiful blue laced dress.

"Thank you so much Auntie" 
I said giving her a hug.

Soon everyone filtered out one by one until everyone was gone. 

"Wow this was the best party ever!" I said cheerfully.

"I'm glad you had fun sweetie, but it's time for to get ready for bed!"
My mom said.

"But when is daddy coming home?" I asked.

"He should be here any minuete, but go get your pajamas on and then we can wait until he gets back."

She said as I ran upstairs to get my pajamas on. As I heard the door open, I ran back downstairs greeting my dad in a big hug.

"Happy 7th birthday my little Hazel nut" he said. 
"I have something special for you" he said handing me a small box.

  I opened it, it was a necklace with a heart in the middle. The heart opened and inside was a picture of the three of us.
"Thanks daddy I'll keep it forever and ever no matter what."
I said happily.

"Alright it's time for bed now"
my mom said sounding exhausted as she walked me to my bed,  tucking me in.

"Good night honey" she said giving me a kiss on the forehead.

"Good night mommy" I said giving her a big hug. 
               *3 hours later*
"Ahhh"
I woke up to my mom screaming.

"Mommy?"
I said rubbing my eyes.

I could smell smoke. I walked towards her room when i saw flames.

"MOMMY, DADDY!"
I screamed as I seen a person look towards me obviously startled.

I couldn't see the persons face because it ran out so fast. I ran towards their room but I couldn't help them, it was too late.

"HAZEL?"
I heard my aunt call out.
