There was one thing he had to do, before he could think about anything else. He was trapped in 1994, so he was still 22. But, right now, he would have been 44 or 45 years old, more or less. It was the same age she was supposed to have too. He looked for her, asking people and then at the police station. He found her address and he went there, to her house. He was nervous. Even if he had become someone else, even if he was now a murderer and a fugitive from Hell, he wanted to remain the same guy to her.

He knocked and someone opened the door.

<< May I help you? >> a man with glasses asked.

<< Hi... Hi, actually yes, you can. I'm looking for Y/N. >>

<< Oh, yes! She's my wife. I'm gonna call her. >> he answered.

Kai gulped, torching his hands.

<< Thank you. >>

The man went away, calling her name. Kai knew, deep down, that she had moved on, that she had found someone and probably that she had a family. He was acting in a selfish way, just because he wanted to see her once. Once, before he could come back to Hell. For a second, he thought she didn't deserve all this pain, so he turned in order to go away, but she arrived.

<< Hello? >>

Her voice seemed so different, yet so soft and sweet like over twenty years ago. He looked at her and she almost fainted.

<< Hey. >>

<< Kai? >> she asked, in disbelief. It was like he could see every memory they shared together in her eyes. She was astonished. << Is that really you? >>

He nodded.

<< Yeah. >>

<< I thought your family locked you in a prison world to heal you from that rare disease! Did they help you? I heard you had a breakdown, after they sent me away. Are you still in cure with a psychiatrist? >>

That's what they told her. That's the last wish he asked for. If she had to go away from him, she hadn't to know what he had become because of them: the black sheep, the bad guy. The situation degenerated when they sent her away. She kept him right. Without her, without his anchor, he felt so lost, he killed his siblings. So, that's the lie they told her: he couldn't hurt anyone or himself, if he was locked in a prison world. He hated his parents, but if that lie made her find peace, he had to stick with it.

So he nodded.

<< I feel better, now. >>

She smiled and it was so bright, he felt like he was gonna die. That's what he missed. He missed the chance to grow up with her. Now it was too late.

<< Time really doesn't pass in prison worlds, does it? You look so young! This meeting makes me feel like Wendy talking to Peter Pan, after she has grown up. >> she laughed and Kai faked a laugh too.

<< Yeah, I know that tale. Funny, isn't it? >>

She came closer to him, then she hugged him. He couldn't taste things, but as sure as Hell he could feel the melancholy and loneliness. He had really loved her.

He couldn't help but asking himself if they would have been still together, otherwise.

<< I'm sorry, but my children are playing in the garden and I have to play with them. I hope to see you, sometimes! Call me, okay? >>
Kai gulped, sadness in his eyes.

<< Yeah, absolutely. >>

He turned his back to her, feeling his whole body so warm, it was like he was going to burn. She remained the same, beautiful and kind. He wished he could tell the same about himself.

<< You're such an idiot! >> she exclaimed, rubbing his cheek. << You don't have to be jealous, Mike is just a friend. >>

<< Well, I bet: he's not handsome as me and he wears glasses! Who wears glasses in the 80's! >>

She laughed.

<< Everyone! >>

<< Yeah, that's my point! He follows the rules, I don't. And I know you love taking risks, right? >> he asked, coming closer to her, his lips almost on hers.

She felt lost in his eyes and her heartbeat began to race, while he was leaning over her to kiss her.

<< That's right. I love the danger. >>

<< I love you. >>
