My Life

The mouse wriggled in front of me. I dropped to a crouch, watching and waiting for the perfect moment to strike. A second later, it paused. I bunched up my leg muscles and pounced. Soaring through the air, I landin swiftly on top of the mouse and trapping it with my claws. Then I noticed a string attached to it's face. That's odd, I thought. I followed the string upwards and found it attached to a pole-like object. I followed that upwards until I noticed a human's hand holding it. The hand moved, and the mouse flicked to the side.
Wait, what? I asked myself, thoroughly confused. I peered at the hand again, and kept looking up, and up, and up until I saw... My human?! What? I kept my gaze on my human's face until she saw me looking. Her long dark brown hair fell forward over her face as she leaned down to rub under my chin. Again, I was thoroughly confused. She reached down to pick me up, and her other hand came down. She was holding the "mouse". I put two and two together and realized that she had been controlling the mouse. This was a mouse I had played with for my entire life, killed multiple times.

My kittenhood was all a lie. What other secrets could the humans be hiding? Was she secretly a cat? Was she secretly a mouse?! I got angrier by the second. How did she not tell me this? She told me everything! Literally. When she would pet me, she would talk and talk about how her life was going, what she ate for breakfast, things she did. But not this! She never - I heard a clinking noise like something was being poured into a bowl. That could only mean one thing. Food! I ran as fast as my paws would allow, into the kitchen. As I went in, I heard her talking to someone over a strange metallic object that she held to her ear.

"Hey, maybe you could come over tomorrow. Yeah, you can bring your cat, it's okay, my kitty is friendly. Love you, bye," she pressed a button on the object and put it down. She grabbed my orange-with-yellow-paw-prints food bowl and set it down on the floor. It was filled with dry pellets. I happily munched on the food, until I was full and the bowl was half empty. I was about to jog back to the larger room but suddenly my human leaned down next to me. She stroked my head and then told me what she had been talking about.

"Ginger, there's another kitty coming tomorrow. You can make a friend! You're going to have so much fun!" She gushed. Oh no.
