"Hey, sweetheart. I am running a bit late, yeah? We were just done with radio. Will be there in half an hour or so," Van muffled from the other end.

"Don't worry about it. I can't wait to see you!" I told him, smiling, knowing that I would be seeing my boyfriend again after so long.

"Who else is there?"

I glanced over at our table and caught Steele staring at me. "Just the usual. Lexy and Lucas, her boyfriend, George and some random guy she just picked up and Steele...."

"Oh? So you're still hanging out with that lad?" Van sighed softly.

"Yeah? He is friends with Lucas," I chuckled.

"No. He's there because he fancies you," Van exhaled loudly, as I glanced over at Steele who was still watching me talking on the phone, which was starting to make me uncomfortable.

"Don't be silly, Van. He's just a friend from work," I tried to convince him.

"Careful, Brynn. But, if you say so then," his voice trailed off but then brightened again. "I'll see you in a bit!"

"Can't wait!"

I made my way to join my friends again after Van hung up. Steele's eyes were still on me the entire time, like he was tracking and analyzing my every movement.

"Everything okay?" He finally asked when I sat on my chair again.

"Well, yeah. That was just Van. He said he'll be running a bit late. You know, caught up with work and all," I smiled.

"Oh, no! It's late. Lucas and I.... we have plans. I'd love to hang out with Van, but I don't think we can wait up any longer," Lexy moaned in Lucas' embrace, laughing when Lucas looked at her confused. She was obviously drunk and it was obvious that was Lexy's codeword for 'I need to go and fuck my boyfriend now!'

"You guys can go. I don't mind," I told them. Understanding that the lovebirds needed to do whatever they needed to do.

"Really?" Lexy asked, as she happily stood on her two feet, ready to go. Lucas pulled her back, asking her to sit, making her sulk.

"Stay. Your friend needs you," Lucas said.

"Guys, seriously. Don't worry about me. Van is going to be here soon anyway," I told Lexy as I looked around for Georgina. She had probably left with that guy.

"I'll stay with you," Steele offered.

"No, you don't have to. It's late."

"It's not nice to ask a lady to wait up for you alone, in a bar," Steele smirked, probably throwing shade at my boyfriend. I wanted to protest but I was in no mood to do so. "I'll stay."

"Fine," I rolled my eyes at him.

"Alright, buddy. You're a good man," Lucas said, giving his friend a high five.

"Alright, folks. We gotta jet and do shit," Lucas said, as Lexy nodded, hugging me a goodbye.

When Lexy and Lucas left, I could feel a tension building between Steele and I, which was making me bothered. Steele was totally acting all weird that night. I was not sure if he had one too many drinks or something was really troubling his mind, but I chose not to ask him anything.

"Do you want another drink?" Steele asked, smiling.

"Yeah, sure," I nonchalantly answered, glancing at the door, hoping that Van would just appear at the entrance already.
