Chapter 1

"And that's how you find the formula for- Crystal!"
I looked up from my phone and raised an eyebrow at my math teacher, Miss Brown.
"Yes?" I replied rudely.
"Would you mind showing us what you have on that phone of yours?" she asked.
"No," I snapped. She was about walking to my table when I was saved by the bell signifying the end of school. I grabbed my backpack , stood up and walked past her into the hallway. As I exited the school building students stared at me.
Take a picture instead, why don't 'ya? I said to myself as I started the walk home. I was only thirteen so I didn't have a driver's licence, let alone my own car.
I stopped at Starbucks to get myself a Frappe and continued my walk home. When I arrived I used my keys to open the door and I stepped into the mansion, closing the door behind me.
"Mom?!" I yelled. No answer. I guess I was home alone.
I went to the kitchen and got some ice cream from the freezer before jogging up the stairs to my brother's room.
"Hey Alex," I smiled as I walked in. Alexander, my fifteen-year-old brother, was lying on his bed and using his laptop.
"Hey," he replied, not taking his eyes off the screen, but I could tell he was smirking. "How was school?"
"Fine," I said. "Here." I walked to him and gave him the tub of cookies and cream ice cream.
"You read my mind. Thanks. Now get out," he said ,laughing and waving me off. I walked out and to my room, flopping onto my bed and retrieving my iPhone from my pocket. I unlocked it and was staring at the screen when my phone buzzed, showing that I had gotten a notification. I swiped down from the top of the screen and clicked on it.
