"Hi, I'm Nash Grier,"
Who knew that those four words could eventually change my whole life? After all, I've been saying them for fifteen years, but now... they actually mean something.
......................
"Loser!" A girl called out to me in the hallway. "No one will ever like you, faggot!" Someone called after. I stayed staring at the ground, carrying my books, and walking to my theatre class. Theatre was the only class I've enjoyed since the seventh grade, the only place I could really be myself, something that I actually enjoyed for once.
I walked into the class, looking at the faces of the students; Frankie, Gregory, Marcey, Dallas, and Angelina. There's not many here, but I guess that's why I like it so much. That, and there's no harrassment here. "Hey, Nash" Angelina smiled as I walked over to my seat, which was beside her.
"Okay students, since there's not many of you right now, we're going to need more." My teacher said plainly. "We've went downhill since our star student, Leslie MacArthur, left our school. Because of that, we are going to have to shut down the program." Marcey and Dallas gasped. "Unless, like I said, we find more students to join us."
I looked up from the floor and my heart dropped. "No one's gonna come with you here, Nash" My mind said. A tear escaped my eye, but I wiped it quickly and looked back down. "How are we going to get people to come if they aren't already here? Wouldn't they be here if they wanted to be?" Angelina said, doubtedly.
"I'll give you more updates, etc. tomorrow. Go ahead and use this as your free period, I have some things to figure out. Have a great day, everyone." My teacher faked a smile and let us leave. I wasn't really happy to get out of class, because I had no one to hang out with really. Until...
"Hey Nash, wait up!" I heard the angelic voice of Angelina say. I turned around and gave a slight smile. She slowed down her running and stopped in front of me. "I hate to ask you this, but I really need help on this art project and I have to make some video and I don't really know how to do stuff like that, do you know anyone that does?"
I nod, "I actually have some experience in editing, if you'd like me to help.." I was really nervous, but tried to cover it with a fake smile.
"Oh my gosh, yes, that'd be perfect! When are you free?"
"You're free every night, loser. She's only using you." The voice in my head was saying.
"Anytime you are. We can meet after school if you want.."
"Sounds great, thank you so much." She said with a smile before turning and walking away.
The rest of the day was normal. People mocked me and made fun of my braces, hair, clothes, and anything else they could find to torture me with.
My long, regular day was finally over so I stood and waited in the halls for Angelina. I looked at my watch, as if I had somewhere to be. Finally, she came running towards me with wind blown hair and a volleyball uniform on.
"I am so sorry. I hope you haven't been waiting too long. My practice went over and I didn't even have time to change."
"No worries, I haven't been waiting long." I lied. I'd actually been waiting for about 20 minutes, but she seemed like she felt bad enough, so I decided not to make her feel worse.
"So are we going to go to your house or my house? Thank you again for helping me." She said gratefully with a smile.
"Well, unless you want to be around my brothers and sister, we should probably go to your house." I chuckled.
"That actually sounds lovely, your place it is." She winked and started out the door.
We walked out to my car and I opened the passenger door for her, then got in the car myself. I started driving, I didn't talk really... I guess I didn't feel the need to.
When we arrived at my house, she was astonished. "It's beautiful, Nash." She said, grinning. I nodded a little and we walked inside. "And it's even more beautiful on the inside." She tried not to sound so enthusiastic as the first time.
"Nash, Nash, can you come play with- who's this?" My sassy, four-year-old sister said after she ran out of her room with two barbies in her hand. Angelina smiled at her and stuck out her hand.
"I'm Angelina, what's your name?" She asked. My sister took the hand gesture as a means of playing and handed her a barbie. "Well thank you, but I'm actually here for homework." Angelina frowned, "but I'll come over again one day and we can play, okay?"
Skylynn was disappointed, but nodded her head and took the barbie back. "We can just go to my room." I said to Angelina. She nodded, smiled at Skylynn, and followed me to my room.
"What a sweet little sister you have!" She said with a huge grin. "What's her name?"
"Her name is Skylynn, and she's anything but sweet." We both chuckled. "Nah, but she is a mess. Everyday when I get home she wants to play, and I usually always give in."
"Well you seem like a really good big brother, Nash." She smiled. "I'd love to have a little sister, but I wasn't that fortunate. My little sister died a few years ago."
I didn't really know what to say, so all that came out was, "I'm so sorry." But she didn't seem to mind.
"It's alright, just the memory of her makes me smile. That's not so easily done by a lot of people, I'm just really happy that she was in my life for that time that she was."
"That's really great, Angelina." I smiled at her. She nodded, she was done talking about it so I didn't ask anything or say anything.
"So, where do we start?" I asked.
