It felt like it took too long to get to their house. I don't know why, but I felt nervous. We had a relationship - yes - but it shouldn't be time to meet any parents yet.
We got to their house, which was a lot smaller than I thought it would be, and got out of the car.
Aiden rung the doorbell, because let's face it, no matter how of you are ringing the doorbell is fun. Rydel answered and welcomed us all into the house. I looked around, it looked like an average family house...kind of a surprise. Part of me was expecting a mansion with remote controlled everything.
There was an immediate sound of yelling and arguing. "Ignore that." Rydel said calmly, she obviously didn't care about the noise. One girl verses four guys...this is probably the norm.
She led us into the kitchen where their parents were cooking dinner. First impression, here we go.
"Mom." Rydel said, as her parents turned around. I just stood their smiling with my hands folded until someone decides to say something.
"Hi!" She said with a huge smile. "Nice to meet you guys." She said washing her hands off with a towel, then reached out to shake our hands. She went down the line and stopped at me. "Blair." It sounded like she was trying to confirm I with me.
"Yeah." I smiled and shook her hand.
"Aren't you pretty." She smiled.
"Aw, thanks." I responded.
My mom popped in, "I'm Christy by the way, and this is Aiden." She said signaling to my brother.
"Stormie." She said, I already knew her name though. "My husband Mark." Then Mark shook everyone's hand.
"So you guys are from Ohio right?" Mark asked.
"Yes, near Cleveland." My mom answered. The conversation turned into parents just talking. Rydel was on the other side of the kitchen stirring something. And I was left awkwardly standing here with my brother.
Aiden nudged into me,"When are we leaving?" He whined.
I looked down at him and crossed my arms. "After dinner. Stop complaining." I answered as I felt someone on my shoulder. I turned to see a mass of blonde hair. It really could have been anyone in this household, but I knew it was Ross. "Hey." I said.
"Hey, how long have you been here?" He asked standing up.
"Five minutes." I had to start looking up at him as he stood up straight.
"So you've met the-"
"There he is." Stormie interrupted.
"-parents." Ross finished then smiled up to my mom. "Hey Mrs. Lasko." He held his hand up as a wave.
"Why don't you show Blair around Ross." Stormie said. Ross looked at me and I shrugged my shoulders.
"Aiden, you want to come?" I asked him, I figured it beat standing there. He nodded his head and tagged along.
Ross led us out of the kitchen to what looked like a family room - it was. Once again, average house. Aiden still looked bored and I guess Ross noticed it.
"Hey, do you wanna play a game or something?" He asked my brother then took him over to all of their video games. Aiden nodded again, apparently he was being a bit shy today. I watched Ross set up a game for him then come back to me. "There."
"That should distract him for a while." I laughed as we went to the next room.
"I don't think you actually need a tour do you?" Ross asked as we walked through his house.
"No, I'm-". I stopped as I looked above the fire place. "Wait, you just keep your awards on the fireplace." I said going over to pick one up.
"Yeah." He rushed to me before I got my hands on anything. "Let's not touch them though."
"Oh. Sorry." I said backing away a bit.
"It's fine."
I stood there and just looked at the line of trophies for a while.
"What?" He asked.
"Nothing. Just...I don't know. Best male actor? Jeez." I said nudging him and laughing. "The only trophy I have is for participating in a gymnastics show."
"You do gymnastics?" He asked.
"No." I said giving him a look that said 'does it look like I do gymnastics?'
"Yeah it's- it's kind of nuts actually. I never thought I'd get anywhere near here." We stood there for another minute, then moved on. "Let's go down stairs." He said opening the basement door and flicking the light on, trotting down the stairs.
This must have been their practice area. It was full of guitars, drums, amps...everything for a band. I sat down on a couch while Ross picked up one of the acoustic guitars.
"Oh do you play?" I said jokingly.
"No not really." He said then started strumming something.
"What's that?" I asked listening.
"Eh, song. I don't have any lyrics for it yet though." He said then sat down next to me.
"I really wish I could play." I said leaning back.
"Here." He said handing me the guitar. The way I was sitting it was like a wooden blanket.
"I have absolutely no musical talent." I said laughing.
"I doubt it." He argued. "Here." He adjusted the guitar on me and arranged my fingers on the frets. "Strum." He said when he was done.
"What." I said confused because I wasn't paying attention. He wrapped his hand around me to the other side then swiped his hand down the metal strings. It created this gorgeous sound that I wished I could have created on my own.
"How about you play something." I said lifting the guitar from my lap and giving it to him.
"Alright, what do you want me to play?" He asked standing, draping the strap over his shoulder.
"I don't care, something." I said. He rolled his eyes then thought for a second.
"You know R5 songs right?" He said as he started playing something.
"Yeah." I said casually. I definitely knew R5 songs. He started strumming Here Comes Forever then stopped.
"No keep going!" I said standing up now.
"This is weird." He said laughing. "Like a personal performance or something."
"Here we can sit." I said, tossing myself on the couch and Patton next to me where he soon sat down.
"Alright, then you have to sing too." He said and started playing again.
"I don't sing." He stopped.
"Not even in the shower?" He asked and I shook my head. "C'mon there is nobody down here but you and me." I rolled my eyes.
"Fine." I said, bringing my legs up on the couch with me.
He played the entrance and I totally missed it. "Ready?" He asked and played it again. I got it this time. I sang awkwardly moving my eyes around the room.
He stopped mid-verse. "I don't sing." He imitated me. "Lies." He said and set the guitar back in its place.
"I don't!" I argued.
"Okay well that was pretty good for not singing." He said walking over to me.
"Sorry." I said laughing.
"Dinner!" We heard someone yell from upstairs.
"We'll have to finish this discussion later." He said officially and started up the stairs.
"No we don't." I said following him up the stairs.
He stopped suddenly turning around, making me stumble a little bit, enough for him to grab my arm from falling. "Later." He laughed.
